The airbag light comes on and off on my 2003 320D BMW, What would cause this

The SRS light is on because the airbag system has developed a fault and is turned off. When the problem that caused this is diagnosed and repaired the light will extinguish itself. Right now you have no airbag protection in a crash, this could cause you serious injury or ***** how much is your life worth, get it repaired. I remember well the horrible damage to the human body before safety features like Airbags and collapsible steering columns to list a few, it was not pretty.

If it is an airbag tester dedicated to the Bosch and/or Siemens (or whatever) SRS systems fitted to those marques it is unlikely to work with vehicles not using those systems - but go ahead and try it. You have two chances and trying and failing won't cause any harm...

Check the wiring harnesses beneath the dash on the drivers side. You are likely to find something loose or broken.

Get your ABS fixed. The airbag light can only be reset by a dealer. Usually caused by a bad or disconnected seat sensor

this problem is most commonly caused by the rotating contact under the steering wheel (also called the clock-spring contact), it has developed and open circuit, the airbag control/diagnostic monitor senses this and disables the airbag system

Late reply but had same problem its caused by the left hand seat airbag .bmw have a fix for it and provide a new loom to the bag
