Heating blower does not work is it a bad resistor?

So i got a 2001 GP GT...for the past month my blower for my heat and A/C has not been working on settings 1-4. Only 5 would work but it would only work once in a while. Now it doesn't work at all, and it's been 15 degrees in Mich.(burr.) I need this fixed fast!...i have a warranty but i haven't taken it into a shop yet cuz i kinda want to know the problem before it goes in. Maybe it's a bad resistor that's what i've been hearing..if anyone has had this problem and knows what it is for sure please let me know. Or even if someone thinks they know i am in dire need to get my whip back on the road. Please Help!! Thanks!

Sounds like the resistor for sure only working on high speed but the resistor could have melted the connector also
if u want to check this yourself remove the right side hush pannel
under the dash below the glove box there is a 5 or 7 wire connector follow the wires from the blower motor and you will see the connector
i know what you mean BURRRR! I'm from ONTARIO CANADA

I have the same car (2001 Grand Prix GT) and only the first setting worked on the blower control. Turns out it was the blower resistor! You can get one at any auto parts store for about $20.00 I think. It is located just under and behind the glovebox. Pull down the carpet a bit that goes under the glovebox and you will see it help on by two bolts. Bit tough to get to but, I never did one before and I replaced mine in about 1 hour. Now, all 5 settings work! You can prob search the net for "how to replce blower motor resistor on grand prix GT". Good luck with some REAL advice!

Heating and cooling fan not working

sounds like a bad blower resistor. The switch runs a straight 12 volts to the motor in high, but runs through the resistor on the lower speeds. The resistor is located somewhere on the HVAC unit(it requires airflow to avoid premature burnout).

My 1999 alero fan will not work.I have replaced the blower motor and checked fuses and still nothing. The heat and air are working fine just not blowing.

Its either a bad connection on the blower motor resistor or a faulty blower motor resistor. These are known for over heating.

The heating and air condition does not blow

start by checking all your fuses, next if fuses are good then check the blower motor resistor, these resistors go bad often, its located in engine compartment,on the rightside on blowermotor housing

My rear AC and Heat is not working in my 2001Suburban

start by check all fuses, then check for power at rear blower.if fuses are good and you have power then may have bad blower,if no power and fuses are good then may have bad resistor. hope this helps good luck.

Rear cooling and heating blower motor does not work

its not in the headliner. its under the side panel in the rear on drivers side. you half to remove the panel on the inside just above the rear tire. since the moter runs sometime i would replace the blower motor resistor first cause these are known for going bad and its in the same area as the blower motor. this resistor controls the fan speeds and if its gone bad the fan dont run right. plus its alot cheaper than blower motor. once you have replaced the resistor you can turn the fan on and see if its a fixya before putting the panel back in place.

Heating and air conditioning

The blower motor works on high setting ONLY when the blower resistor is bad. The blower motor resistor is held in place with 2 screws and attached into the heater housing under the right side of the dashboard. You can identify the resistor by the big wires that are connected to the connector. If this heating/cooling system is the auto temp type, the part is a bit high on the price.

Blower motor stop working on 2000 Pontiac GP

Two possibilities I can think of. #1. The blower motor itself is dead, or #2. The blower motor resistor is fried. Blower motor resistor, however, is more known for taking out certain fan speeds, such as the lower fan speeds.

If you can, check if there is voltage at the blower motor connector with the ignition on and the engine not running. If you have voltage, the blower is bad. If no voltage, it may be a bad blower switch, the blower motor resistor assembly, or the wiring between them.

The resistor assembly is on the evaporator housing under the dash on the passenger side and near the blower motor. The glove box must be removed to check this and the blower. A thermal limiter resistor is built into the resistor assembly and will open, ie melt, with excessive heat.

Without more details on this, it appears either your blower motor or the blower motor resistor assembly is bad.
