Will not start while on park after driving for ten

1997 jeep chero Will not start while on park after driving for ten minutes have to shift to neutral to start it.
It doesn't happen all the time, but I would say about 80% of the time

As I understand it, it is stalling after 10 minutes of driving, then when you put it back into park to restart it, it wont start. It will only start when it is in Neutral? Is this correct? My initial thought is it sounds like a transmission problem. Not very helpful, I know. But I need more clarification of the problem.

Your dealership can read the codes entered into your car's computer every time it malfunctions. Same problem as yours, however, also gets worse, back up lights won't work, sticks in park (in the gas stationing) (very embarrassing), will only run with foot on gas, etc. It was the "neutral safety switch". $500 fix but runs and starts perfectly all the time.

Vehicle not shifting

Have you retrained the gear? From memory think goes motor running foot firmly on brake park to neutral three times, neutral to reserve three times, neutral to drive three times, keep going thru all gears Then drive car normal for ten minutes minium as you usually would.

Shifting to NEUTRAL

the vehicle is parked so that it will not roll:

the clutch pedal pressed for vehicles with
manual transmission.

for one second or FIRST (1) for vehicles with

FIRST (1) for vehicles with manual transmission.
10. Release the parking brake prior to towing.

Will not shift out of park

Look in your owner's manual under fuses. There is a fuse for brake shift lock solenoid (fuse #1). You can still drive your car by turning the key on just enough to shift to neutral, and then starting it in neutral. You can shift to drive and reverse, but if you shift to Park then you have to turn the engine off and proceed as previously

I have a jeep wrangler and to have it towed you are suppose to put the transverecase in neutral after you first depress brake pedal put trans in neutral then start engine shift auto trans into drive release brake pedal make sure there is no movement, shut engine off with key left in acc position shift auto trans into park, disconnect neg battery cable (damage can result in trans if shifted into park while transvere case is in neutral with engine running) you should refere to your owners manuel
