Gear shift is loose windstar sel 2001 - 2001 Ford Windstar

There haven't been modulator valves in transmissions since they started putting computers in cars but it was a good guess. It could be one of three things that I can think of. 1) It may be a loose wire on one of the computer sensors in or on the transmission, 2) one of these could be a loose or defective, 3) And I hope I'm wrong on this one. There may be a bad internal seal which won't allow the internal pump to build enough pressure to keep it in gear. If this the problem, get rid of it before it gets worse, get it fixed before you drive it much more or drive it as little as possible as every time it shifts in and out it damages the internal clutch packs and low gear band. This happened to my 2001 Windstar. At the point that I traded it in, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears would shift alright but it wouldn't stay in 4th, (overdrive). It would shift in and out of 4th at random. Sounds like the solenoids are not working correctly in your transmission. May need to be rebuilt. Check with your local transmission shop about this problem.

Your MAF mass air flow sensor is faulty. You can clean them sometimes with carb cleaner an it will work for awhile but it needs replacing. It's telling the computer the wrong information about how much air is going to the engine.

It sounds like you have a bad spark plug. Take it to autozone and have them hook up an OBD II scanner to it for you. Its free of charge.

This bolt connects 2 parts of gear shifter. It's getting loose. It's known problem. Look under the steering column. Jiggle the shifter you will see where the problem is.

if it does absolutely nothing when you turn the key but you're SURE the battery is good or tried to jump it, it sounds like an interlock problem. there are several things that could be causing it but I would concentrate either on the gear shift interlock (has to be in park before it will engage the electrical system when starting) or the key itself. First thing I would do is (with my foot on the brake), shift it through all the gears then make sure it's in park then try it again.

check and see if you have a over drive kick down switch that may be your problem just call a parts store and ask if your vehicle has one

fist unclip wire,then unscrew it with a 28mm spanner ,fitting procedure is the reverse .It turns anticlockwise to unscrew and clockwise to screw up ,torque setting is a grunt and two scuffed knuckles and max of 3 swear words

HI !!! there usully one problem w/ this when thoesnt shfti right from firs to the second also takes more time is the Solenoid Pack in Rey. have computer tested and it wil tell you which has to be changr all this work inside the trnsmsion
