You need to put the key in and turn it to the run position.Then put a seal pick or a small pin punch into the access hole in the side of the tumbler housing,push in on it and pull out the tumbler.

you should use the tumbler from your old column. you can have a bypass installed if you still have one of your old ignition keys, the dealer will have to reprogram your computer to work with a different key.
I am having the same problem with my 1994 Olds Cutlass. The connection between the ignition and the starter is malfunctioning, and the car will not start. One moment is was fine, the next it won't start. Were you able to resolve the problem on your Cutlass?
I would check to see if you are getting power to the small wire on the starter solenoid when you turn the key to the starting position. If so, you may have a bad starter or solenoid.
you can jump out the security.. you can not trade out chips...you can try a relearn process.. as follows.. turn ignition on for ten minutes do not crank. after ten minutes turn key off then right back on for another 10 minutes...then one more time off then back on for ten minutes..then off hen try to crank.. if car starts then done.. if not send me email for way to jump out ignition.. kbutlrtech at yah00.com
I do beleive that you have to tear apart the steering column to get to this. This will require special tools, generally they can be rented from your local parts store.
does the key have a computer chip built into it. i think it does . if this is the case that,s your problem. the key has to match the computer in the car it,s programed from the factory like this. you either have to use the original ignition lock and key or get the lock in your new column keyed to your original key by a lock smith. than your car will start. good luck.
Sounds like a RFID issue. Your key most likely has a chip inside of it. Most of the time people will have multiple keys on their key chain that can cause interference with the receiver in your steering column. Try using the one ignition key to start.
diconnect battery and wait 30 minutes, then remove steering whell and then remove clip holding lock plate, remove plate and unscrew, usually three screws and remove the turn signal sir coil assembly, then you will see a bolt that is holding the lock cylinder in, it will have 2 wires attached to it and they must be disconnected at the base of the steering column and routed up through the column, then replace parts in reverse order, do not spin the sir coil or you will have to replaqce it
