Hey ive got a 1991 buick regal 3.8L just a couple questions. #1 when the car has been running for awhile Idle or driving and then been shut off when it is re started in the near future before the genine gets cold it will shake and shutter. i found a fix for this by putting it in nuteral and pushing the gas at a low rpm and it will stop. or driving for a few secconds will stop it. exasut back up? idk. # 2 my chk engine light is on for a camshaft sensor. replaced the sensor so its the magnet or the harnes with the problem. but can this cause the engine to get too hot and start to lack HP as it gets warmer? ive noticed when its cold its very mean. and when its hot its very lacking in HP it kinda wines

replaced fuel filter about 2 yrs ago so i guess i need a new one. fuel pressure checked a year ago and strong. yet the fuel pump will sometimes sound strange when shutting off. but pressure always goes up instantly. the car doesnt shut off just gets real sluggish when hot. its pulling code 41 on an obd1 system. cam shaft possition sensor

Get the fuel pressure checked after you change the fuel filter. The magnet on the came gear will most likley need to be replaced. The timing cover will need to come off to do this. While you are in there replace the chain, cam thrust spring and tensioner too. The cars with 3800's will usually shut off when the crank sensor gets hot after driving. Cooling it with a spray bottle of water will sometimes make them run. As for you case when it acts up spay it and see if it clears up. If so replace it. What are the engine codes? reply

1991 Buick Ragal Custom 3.1 starts, then stalls immediately.

You need the exhaust converter so the O2 sensor can
work properly

It sounds as though the converter is blocked,as well
as the fuel trim, if that is correct term for an OBD1 System,
is not able to report back the oxygen in the failed converter

So the ecm can not provide the correct fuel mixture by
pulsing the injectors

I would also expect the timing chain to have a lot of slop
& possibly be off a couple teeth, from worm plastic gear
on cam

1986 Buick Regal T-Type turbo w/ idle problems

Sounds like the EGR valve is stuck in the open position. You can try to clean the carbon out of it or just replace it.

My 1991 Buick Regal cranks right up but lopes when in idle. Shuts off sometimes in drive and reverse. But still starts right up. Recently changed spark plugs and wires, pcv valve, MAP sensor. Car runs...

Hi, have to checked to make sure there is PCV flow? I see you put in a new valve, but did you check it with the engine running? The hose or port may be clogged.

Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r7427423-fix_poor_idle_high_idle_stalling_fuel . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

You name it ive done it!!!! I have a 99 regal with the 3800 series 2 and it is running rough either at idle oe driving and every once in awhile it will just die but starts right back !!! any ideas?

I have a 1988 Buick Century and was having trouble diagnosing a similar issue. $70 and an idle air motor (really looks more like a solenoid-driven valve) solved 60% of the problem...still working on the lagging on the high end, but driving it every day. Good luck!

1991 Buick regal OBD code 23

I wonder if the sensor from the junk yard is also bad. Check all of the wiring and connections. You might have to opt for a new sensor.

1999 Buick Regal GSX won't stay running......

It's probably the mass airflow sensor and/or oxygen sensors.

91 BUICK REGAL - NO SPARK

The cam sensor is most likely the cause.
The sensor is getting hot and shorting out intermitantly. I would have the vehicle check by your local mechanic.

Hey. you responded to my question about the 91 regal acting sluggish the warmer it gets and the longer i drive it in one trip. ive pretty much knocked out the simple stuff. since i have owned it i have...

An air ambient temp sensor wouldn't have that kind of effect on the engine. I would lean more towards the CTS. Also I would check the vaccum line running into the MAP sensor as well. The mileage doesn't indicate a converter issue.
