In australia a toyota corrola can reach 250000 km with out any major mishaps . that is with religious service and a good owner . that equates to 155000 miles

As this vehicle is a 2005 then the oil service light can only be reset by the dealer ,or so it says in my alldata book the bible of mechanics ,(europeon nmodels )
you can have the engine compression checked. if the oil has been changed regularly, it should be at least 150 psi on all cylinders, with less than 10 psi difference. between them. the engine vacuum can be checked as well, it should be at least 13 at the intake manifold. good luck, hope this helps!
Change engine oil regularly, every 3000miles or 3months, whichever comes first. Make sure to use an API certified SAE 10W30 in summer and 5W30 in the winter. If your Corolla has extensive engine wear, 10W30 is a suitable substitute. You must not use 10W30 if temperatures are 10F and expected to fall at 0 degree Fahrenheit.
Check that your gas cap is on tight (clicks). Take your car to an auto store and have them read the codes(usually free). They can tell you what the codes mean. You may only need a new oxygen sensor. I have a Mitsubishi that the light regularly turns on in the winter and off in the summer(196,000 miles). Gas mileage is stable. Your car is newer but a road trip may be all it needs to turn off the light.
It all depends on how it is maintained. It is a reliable car with a reliable engine. The engine will outlast the car. However, if the previous owner didn't take care of it, it will eventually let you down. A good friend of mine owns an 06 Corolla which he bought used last fall.. It has not been perfect but he also doesn't care about his cars. (His previous car went at least 75,000 miles without so much as an oil change.)
NOTE these are updated capacities that reflect changes identified in TSB: TSB-0134-08 issued July 15, 2008. Your owners manual will reflect a lesser quantity that Toyota has since revised.
its to let you know that its almost time to change your oil. it will stay on when the car has reached 5000 miles since your last oil change or since the light was last reset.
Are you kidding,
1 Jack up your car
2 Find the oil plug on oil pan
3 loosen the plug- righty tighty lefty loosey
4 drain oil
5 put plug back in
6 put oil in engine
Our 2006 Corolla has a "Maintenance Required" light in addition to the "Check Engine" one. MR light comes on every 5000 miles telling you to change oil and whatever's in the book. To turn it off,
Set Cluster Display to ODOMETER (not Trip A or Trip B)
Ignition Off
Hold Cluster Display button down
Ignition On, Continue to Hold button down
Odometer will change to "----------" then return to Miles Display
Light goes Out
