There is a switch under the dash that operates the brake lights when you apply the brakes. It is normally held in place by a bracket that has "lock nut" on either end of it. Sometimes you can inadvertently pull the switch out of place if you catch your foot on the brake pedal.
If you can, check to see if the lock nuts are still in place against both sides of the bracket.

Those lock nuts are on the switch where the brake pedal lever travels up and down. There are two switches, one for brake lights, the other for anti-lock system. They should be tight on both brackets.

Control of the parking, license plate, and tail lamp operation is dependent upon the position of the lighting switch (combination switch). When the lighting switch is placed in the 1ST position, the BCM (body control module) receives input signal requesting the parking, license plate, side marker and tail lamps to illuminate. This input signal is communicated to the IPDM E/R (intelligent power distribution module engine room) across the CAN communication lines. The CPU (central processing unit) of the IPDM E/R controls the tail lamp relay coil. This relay, when energized, directs power to the parking, license plate, rear side marker and tail lamps, which then illuminate.
Testing starts at 134

The exclamation light is an indicator that the transmission has a problem. Take it to a transmission place, for them to diagnose before it's too late.

sounds like wireing is shorted together. you need to trace down wires and check for bad spots in wireing. also be sure and check plug if you are set up for trailer lights.

Try lifing the pedal up to see if the lights go out.If it does the pedal linkages inside the car need a spray of wd40.If they don't ,there is a small switch attached to the pedal that may be stuck, needs adjusting or is broken. Its less than 1 inch round and has 2 wires attached to it.Hope this helps you

1999 Toyota Corolla Seca - hatchback. the tail

If you put your foot on the brake, the tail lights and parking lights will still come on. Possibly your brake is sticking. Check to see if it is and if it is put WD40 for a quick fix. See a tech for them to fix your brake alignment. Good Luck!

2004 A4 1.8T Brake Lights Remain On After Car Is Parked

Sounds like your brake light switch is on its way out. Its a simple fix and a cheap part. It will need to be done immediately as not only can the lights staying on drain your battery but it can also cause lack of power and not put the brake lights on when braking. The switch is operated by the pedal itself and requires the drivers underdash trim to be removed. With this off the switch can be accessed and replaced. If you can get a vehicle technician to fit it, do so, as they are quite fragile and new switches can become useless if fitted incorrectly. Good luck
