97 town car not shifting from 1st to 2nd gear

Check the Coolant (antifreeze) level. My 94 continental has a hard time shifting from 2nd to 3rd when the level is low. Also, this may indicate that the transmission fluid is too old to work properly. The transmission fluid is cooled at the bottom of the radiator, since cool fluid works better than hot fluid (especially when the trans fluid is old) that could make the transmission not shift properly. Keep the coolant level up until you can have the trans fluid checked.

You need to replace the radiator, the trans.is cooled through the radiator and the antifreeze is getting into the trans. You will also need to flush all the old trans.fluid out and change the filter and fluid because they are now contaminated.

1988 ford f150 - it overheated and overflowed, put more liquid in, now its gone What do you think it is? no sign of radiator leak

If you have added water/antifreeze only once, there is still air in the cooling system and it will take several topping offs to completely fill it. If you have already filled it several times and it still looses fluid, then you may have blown a head gasket. Top off the radiator again and run the truck to get it up to operating temp. Open the radiator cap (slowly and carfully so it doesn't blow out at you) and see if there are any bubbles coming up in the radiator. This is a sure sign of a leaking head gasket. Also white smoke from the exhaust pipe is another telltale sign.

Hello. The longer you drive this car without having the leak repaired the greater the chances are that you will be sitting on the side of the highway somewhere. Go directly to an AAMCO or similar auto parts shop and have the leak repaired. The reason why the antifreexe leaked out but the water didn't is because the total amount of fluid in your system is decreasing all the time.

Cant find transmission leak on 88 sierra 1500 2wd.

check your radiator and the over flow tank. If the transmission cooler is leaking in the radiator, you'll see the oil residue in the antifreeze and your going to have to flush the cooling system and replace the radiator. Good luck and hope this helps.

Motor oil in transmission

Are you sure it's not just a dirty and burn transmission fluid?? But if it is engine oil you may have a bad radiator since the transmission cooler and engine oil cooler is integrated with the radiator.
Good luck and keep me posted.
