1991 plymouth voyager distributor cap wont rotate

The cap does not rotate. If you want to move the distributor, loosen the hold-down bolt, and turn the whole distributor housing.

97 dodge stratus 2.5 car turns over but does not have spark. There is fuel. I replaced the ECM crankshaft position sensor.

I would start with the rotor and cap. I just worked on one and it was the distributor was bad.

If you need to remove it and rplace it heres how.

Distributor Removal and Installation REMOVAL
  1. Remove bolt holding air inlet resonator to intake manifold.
  2. Loosen clamps holding air cleaner cover to air cleaner housing.
  3. Remove PCV make-up air hose from air inlet tube.
  4. Loosen hose clamp at throttle body.
  5. Remove air inlet tube, resonator and air cleaner cover.
  6. Remove EGR tube.
  7. Remove spark plug cables from distributor cap.
  8. Loosen distributor cap hold-down screws and remove cap.
  9. Mark rotor position for installation reference, then remove rotor.
  10. Remove two harness connectors from distributor.
  11. Remove two sets of distributor hold-down nuts and washers from studs.
  12. Remove bolt and spark plug cable mounting bracket from top of distributor housing.
  13. Remove bolt and transaxle dipstick tube.
  14. Carefully remove distributor from engine.
  1. Install rotor on shaft.
  2. Position distributor in engine and ensure O-ring is properly seated on distributor. Replace O-ring if it is cracked or nicked.
  3. Carefully engage distributor drive with slotted end of camshaft. When the distributor is installed properly, the rotor will be in line with previously marked line on air intake plenum.
  4. If engine was cranked while distributor was removed, establish proper relationship between distributor shaft and No. 1 piston position as follows:
    1. Rotate crankshaft until number one piston is at top of compression stroke.
    2. Rotate rotor to No. 1 rotor terminal.
    3. Lower distributor into opening, engaging distributor drive with drive on camshaft. With distributor fully seated on engine, rotor should be under No. 1 terminal.
  1. Install distributor hold-down washers and nuts. Torque to 9 ft-lbs .
  2. Install spark plug cable bracket.
  3. Install two harness connectors to distributor.
  4. Install distributor cap.
  5. Install transaxle dipstick tube.
  6. Install EGR tube to intake manifold. Torque bolts to 8 ft-lbs .

How do you advance the the timing on a 83' delta 88 that don't have a vacuum advanece on the distributor?

Loosen the distributor lockdown and turn the distributor clockwise to ****** ignition timing. Counter-clockwise to Advance.

Removal & Installation
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Tag and remove the spark plug wires and the coil leads from the distributor.
  3. Unplug the electrical connector at the base of the distributor.

Mark the distributor and tag the spark plug wires

A distributor wrench can be used to loosen hold-down bolt

  1. Loosen the distributor cap fasteners and remove the cap.
  2. Using a marker, matchmark the rotor-to-housing and housing-to-engine block positions so that they can be matched during installation.
  3. Loosen and remove the distributor hold-down bolt and clamp.
  4. Remove the distributor from the engine.

This almost sounds like the timing is to far advanced. If you have a distributor then loosen the one bolt at the base of the distributor and turn it counter clockwise about an 8th of an inch. Do this while it is running so you can be sure you do not turn it too much and it quits on you. Take a yellow or white marker and mark the spot where it was originally set before you turned it. When loosening the distributor bolt at the base, just loosen it enough to turn with a little pressure so while it is running it will not turn it on you. When turning it if the engine raises in rpms?goes faster, Then you are going the wrong way. You want it to lower the idle just barely. I hope this helps, Let me know, The Raz

loosen distributor adjustment screw under distributor. with engine running turn distributor until engine runs smooth. better yet, use timing light during the adjustment.

My timing is off where do i reset it at to a 1997 gmc savana 1500

Timing is set by loosening the bracket that holds the distributor. It is located at the base of the distributor where it enters the engine block. Loosen it a small amount then you can turned the distributor left or right to advance or ****** the timing. They make custom distributor wrenches that are curved so you can get to the bolt head easier. Some have a square hole in the shaft so you can put the wrench on a ratchet.

How to advance ignition timing on acura legend

When a car has a distributor, loosen the clamp under the distributor and turn the distributor clockwise/counter-clockwise to ge the appropriate timing. There is usually 1 bolt holding the clamp tight against the distributor. Determine which direction you need to turn with the timing light as your guide. As alway's, be careful of the moving parts!!

I have a 84 monte carlo, what does it mean when you turn ya car off and it kinda keeps jerking to stay on?

This is a timing issue. if you turn your distributor cap a few degrees left or right (loosen the tension bolt first) you can nip this one in the ****!
