Question about 2005 Toyota Avalon

1 Answer

2005 toyota avalon heated seats dont work. This happened after rain leaked into the cabin, and there was an electrical burning smell from the area of the controls. I replaced the seat controller, and I see lights on the control panel, but the driver's seat does not get warm. Is there possibly an in-line fuse that could be burned out? The owner's manual does not say.

Either that, or check to make sure the ground wire to the heating element isn't corroded or broken.

How can a 2005 Toyota Avalon front passenger power seat be adjusted to lie flatter than it does now as the rear bench seat just slightly prevents it from doing so?

you will have to remove the seat ,battery disconnect of course as dont want the airbag light on,Now work out how mush you need it foreward then redrill the mountings and fit nuts and bolts to hold it as no doubt the existing fittings are capulated nuts in the floor pan .

2003 cts smells like its on fire

I had the same problem. The dealership said it was a dirty cabin air filter. An ace mechanic diagnosed it as a very small oil leak from the valve cover gasket heating up as it ran down the side of the engine. We replaced the gasket and the intermittent burning smell disappeared.

No oil in the crankcase, no leak from the plug

This is a very common problem and may be covered under warranty if you yell loud enough. There is an oil line that goes from the back of the engine and up toward the front. It fails and all the oil gets pumped out of the engine. Do not drive the car like this. It is a difficult job to repair because of its location.

2005 Toyota Corolla - car smells after rains

Look under the passenger side of the dash, behind the carpet. Feel the back side of the carpet for dampness. If so, try this: In the same area, look for a black rubber hose that comes from the heater plastic box, and pokes thru the firewall. See if it is plugged up. This is the drain pipe for the AC box, and the cowl panel if the side drains are plugged up. Try that, and please get back to me.

My 2005 toyota avalon is leaking oil and smells like oil is burning. Will this expensive to repair and is this a common problem?

It really depends on where the oil is leaking from. Most of the time, engine vibration and constant bumpy rides could loosen bolts and nuts here and there causing parts to brush against each other. In areas like the Gearbox and the engine itself, there is a thin material known as a Gasket that seats in between some these parts to prevent lubricants [i.e.oil] from leaking. If this gasket wears out, you have an oil leak. However friction is rarely the cause of oil leaks. When a gasket serves its time [after years of heating and cooling, contaction and expansion] it simply needs changing. So you could check to see if really you have worn out gaskets or loose joints.
As for the smell of burning oil, that is probably due to worn out engine rings. Around every Piston are a series of rings that prevent lubricating oil from going into the combustion chambers. when they are worn out, some oil becomes part of the combustion process reducing your cars overall power and causing smoke.
As for Cost, you wont spend much to have the oil leaks checked, as for the rings, you'll probably spend a little bit more. Where I live all that never goes past $170

I parkedmy car. smelled a smell looked under the hood and I saw smoke. I looked under my car and I see oil leaking out.

This answer will not solve your problem because your oil leak could be coming from any of a number of places. If you can Identify where the leak is and describe that area to me, perhaps I could further assist, otherwise, I would suggest you get a mechanic to check it out. Sorry.

Smells like burning oil, oil is running out under car with a small amount of smoke. There is no noise and no warning lights are on. Oil is under the hood on most of the stuff.

Most likely cause is a leak in the valve cover gasket. Under pressue, a good sized leak will spurt and burn off on the manifuld, causing the smell of burning oil you're getting. This also would cause the presence of oil throughout the engine compartment. Best of luck on your problem.
