Make sure everyone will fuel up your Rodeo DO NOT TOP OFF the tank.

The few ounze of gasoline can soak the charcoal canister and damage the vapor purge relay/vent.

Park the truck outdoor

Locate the charcoal canister and disconnect the hose.

Let it vent for 3-5 hours.

Reconnect the EVAP line.

Error code 0440 on a 2002 buick custom

Go to an auto parts store and get a Haynes repair manual for car it will have the code meanings for any and all codes on that vehicle. Only bad thing is the book cost around $30 maybe you will get lucky and one will be open and you could take a peak inside.

Why is engine light on ?

The 506, 171, and 1582 codes could be due to carbon buildup in the throttle body. Use throttle body cleaner to remove the carbon build up and retset codes. The 0440 code is the evap system code. This is usually a loose or worn out fuel cap.

What is the code for a bad gas cap? I just replaced my intake manifold gasket (dealer said that was the problem and that there was a OLD code for catalytic converter) but I believe the problem is the gas...

codes p 0440 through to p 0459 all refer to the EVAP system.
code p 0455 refers to EVAP system very large leak which refers to a loose or missing gas cap
manifold leaks are a small leak in the codes and many are miss- read as a vacuum leak can be from the transmission actuator hose missing , and the vent controls leaking
A lot of the EVAP codes refer to the purge valve or the purge valve solenoid

Code 0440 or P0440

p0440 is typically an evaporative emissions code. What that means is gas in your tank evaporates and there is a system (evap system) set in place to manage those evaporations. This system monitors gas tank pressures and releases pressure accordingly. By monitoring pressures it can sometimes be set by leaving the gas cap a little loose after filling up. So the first thing I would check is make sure your cap is tight and get that code cleared out somewhere like a local parts store for free and see if it comes back on.

Car codes

When you have P0440, P0441 and P0446, it is a very good bet that the fuel cap was loose, or the fuel cap rubber seal is compromised. You will get all three of those codes every time that the cap is loose. Always make sure that the fuel cap is as tight as you can get it after you refuel.

2000 Honda (Isuzu Rodeo) Check Engine Light ? 4 Codes, Misfire/Throttle/EVAP ?

Hi Jack,

I am not an expert and I don't have the codes in front of me with the meaning but I can offer some advice and hopefully it will solve your problem. First keep the print out of the codes and take it/them with you. Have someone check the oxygen sensor. It's possible that all of the codes you are getting lead up to the computer (electrical issue). I sure hope this helps. Good luck and let me know how things turn out.
