It's the blower motor located on the fire wall. Easy to replace. Just did mine. Make sure you have a wheel though when replacing. There is a blower with a wheel and one without. The one without will make your vehicle sound like an airplane.

From your description, it sounds like your fan is the problem? I'm not intimately familiar with the pontiac vans but you pretty much need to track down the heater fan motor and the wiring between it and the switch. Check these wires for a fault and/or replace the wiring or the switch or the motor if need be. Because it's an intermittent fault, I think you probably just have a poor connection.

Check all your fuses just in case.

Good luck!

On a 1994 Pontiac Transport V-6 3.8 just had a tune up done along with a new fuel pump,& filter.. Van is still running sluggish, & shuts down .. what else can I check or do??

Find your coil, wiggle the wires going into the top of it, should be two or three wire connector. If your engine shuts down or runs worse while wiggling, replace connector.

1994 pontiac transport se sluggish running

Ck your exhaust pipe at rear of car noting any obnoxious smell like rottrn eggs. Hold a piece of paper, I use a dollar bill ,in in front of the exhaust. If it blows the paper gently, you have a catalyctic converter going or is bad. Will need replace if so.
