Question about 2003 GMC Sierra 2500HD

1 Answer

I think it is the transfer case on my 2004 GMC 2500HD 6.0L truck that is gone. It seems like when you load up the 4 wheel drive or turn sharp the chain binds up and snaps and gives a jolt. Just wondering what the part numbers are needed to change this out. I am sure it is the problem. the oil was right black in there as well. Both CV axl's have already been changed out.

What is the most common problem with 4 wheel drive on gmc canyon when it will not engage

It is activated by an electric Solenoid. Try jumping straight 12 volts to it and listen to see if it clicks. If not replace it.

Safari Transfer Case

You can add what is called "Limited slip additive" to your transfer case. Available at all GM Dealers, and most part stores. You are a good driver to feel and hear this symptom...Hope this helps.

Sounds like it's in 4-wheel drive

You may have a bad TCC (Transfer Case Controller) or the Transfer Case actuator is bad. This repair will need to be done by a mechanic familiar with 4x4 systems.

I am trying to replace the 4wd drive actuator on my 2004 gmc.how do i get the spline on the transfer case to line up with the spline on the actuator?

Rotate the actuator until the spline goes on partially, then rotate to align with mounting bolts. May need to turn wheels while doing the final rotation.

My 2500hd s 4 wheel drive service warning is

The  actuator on the front diff or transfer case is stuck or bad. This will send a signal back and turn on the service light. In 2003 I believe the actuator is on the front differential.
