is the rod that goes into the collum broken off,its not recommended ,but the anything you could do is a small screw driver and move the switch that way but, that may be a driving HAZARD

How to repair turn signal lever

In order to repair the lever you must replace the turn signal switch, this requires the **** shell covers on the steering column to be removed, they are held on by 4 screws recessed in holes, then the switch is bolted to the steering column tube by two machine screws, do not break the wire connectors to the switch, remove them carefully. Always disconnect the battery negative cable before working on the steering column

70 chevelle front turn signal does not work but parking light does, rear signal works. If you switch wires at socket, parking light lworks using either wire but turn signal does not work

Hi, either the turn signal switch is bad or the wire has broken. First trace the wire back toward the switch to see if you can find a break. If you have a test light, ground the clip to a bare spot under the dash and shove the probe into the back of the turn connector (blue wire) at the base of the steering column. This connector is attached to the side of the column just above your feet. Turn the key and signal on to see if the light will blink. If it does, you know the wire is broken between that connector and the bulb. If it doesn't blink, replace the switch. Please let me know if you have questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

Turn signal does not return

Try spraying some WD40 on the base of the signal lever (into the steering column), if that does not work than you need to replace the actual mechanism behind the steering wheel.

All at once, the turn signals started to flash fast, Now I know that normally means a bulb is out. But when the turn signal, either one is turned on, the driving lights flash oppiste of both signals and I...

Pull the steering wheel and clean the turn signal switch and look for broken parts. If that doesn't fix it, then replace the turn signal wand on the steering column.

I have a 1998 mountineer every time i lower the steafring weel the tun signals dont work

You may have a bad connection on the Plug-in connectors at the Turn signal switch. What you will need to do is remove the plastic steering column cover and expose the Turn signal switch. The switch itself is called a MFS which means multifunctionswitch. Everything for the turn signals and wipers goes through this unit. On some models you have to remove the Ignition tumbler or even drop the steering column.

You may need to tighten the MFS to the column. There are several small female Torx bolts holding it tight. OR the connectors are loose on the wiring loom at the switch OR there is a broken wire which separates when the column moves. Be careful when uncoupling the connectors because you do not want to break the mounting tangs.

When you lose the turn signals, try engaging the Hazard button and see what works. Most likey nothing will, but in the Hazard mode you will be able to perform a wiggle test and once you find the bad connection in this mode everything should work when you get out of Hazard.

Turn signal is stuck on left and I can't get it to shut off. Where do I start to solve the problem?

Sounds like the switch INSIDE the steering column has broken. The replacement switch is probably between 60 and 100 dollars. Expensive, I know, but worth the price of sanity over the long run. Should take about an hour to replace with the proper tools.

The ignition switch had been busted with a screwdriver. I need to replace the old one, but I am unsure how the remove it from the steering column.

disconnect the batt. remove the horn pad, remove clip that retains the steering nut and remove nut, use a puller to remove steering wheel, the compress the locking plate with tool, and remove c clip from the column, remove 4 way flasher button and signal arm, then remove signal switch, should be enough play to just wing it out of the way, then remove the pin that holds the tumbler in, turn to the on position and it should just slide out, then reverse the process,
