You're going to lose some coolant, so have a bucket or other container ready. Follow the upper radiator hose to the point where it's connected to the engine. The hose is clamped to a metal housing which is bolted to the engine. Remove the bolts (not the hose) and lift the housing to expose the thermostat (may require a little prying with a screwdriver or similar tool). Note how the old thermostat is fitted (which end is up), lift it out of the engine, and then remove all traces of gasket from the housing and the engine. Install the new thermostat and gasket, replace the bolts, add coolant as necessary, and you're done.

Which way does thermostat go in to 1985 honda accord carb model? It is overeheating after putting thermostat in, maybe put in wrong.

If the problem accured only after puttting in the new (asuming it is new) thermostat - simply flip it over to see if that works. If not I suspect the thermostat is faulty. Let me know. Thanks

Thermostat installation

Undue two bolts on thermostat housing - remove thermostat - clean both mating surfaces - put in place new gasket (or RTV gasket material) put in new thermostat (spring down) and replace bolts. Do not over tighten and torque down each bolt alternately using approx the same force you used to remove them.

I am installing the thermostat on my F150 but it leaks, I done twice already,I know I'm doing something wrong,Is it the gasket before the thermostat or the other way around?

I'm having the same issue. I had to replace my front cover and I forgot to put in the thermostat. (Wasn't leaking at all). So then I decided to put it back in so I took off the housing and replaced the gasket and put in the thermostat. Now it leaks like no other. I have taken it off several times looking at it and I can't seem to figure it out. I have tried thermostat then gasket and other way around. I tried putting the spring part on the thermostat towards me and then away. Nothing is working. If you have figured it out let me know.
