What engine is in this passat? Radiator is simple enough, on the left hand of the radiator on the very bottom of it there will be a ridged tapered nipple sort of thing, about a half inch long. Just unscrew that and open the header tank. Generally the thermostats arent too hard to find. Forward facing normally under three bolts.

Just check to see if the fans are coming on. When the car has reached running temperature. Make sure it is full of water. If everything is fine I would change the thermostat.. Drive and test...Next I would flush the radiator.Basic radiator flush will work from your local auto parts store. Good Luck!!!!

I have a 2001 VW Passat I wish to flush the radiator system out but dont know how to drain the system

So far since VW started using phosphate free coolant (pink or red), I haven't seen the need to flush it. This depends whether it was mixed with tap water or other coolant. Anyway, there is a drain valve at the bottom left side of the radiator along the lower hose. Just turn it lefty lucy. Just make sure it isn't hot and pressurized or it will scald you, so open the reservoir cap first before you attempt on opening the valve.

NOTE: Make sure you use only VW G12 coolant and if you need to mix water, the best is filtered drinking water (reverse osmosis), not bottled but something like Brita.

Pls. rate this suggestion, thank you.

Usually there is a plug on the upper radiator hose. If you pull the horseshoe clip and remove the plug you can let the air bleed out of the system

How do you drain the radiator on a 2003 vw passat

If there are no drain locks on the bottom of the radiator, remove lower radiator hose. To create a vacuum, remove radiator cap and upper radiator hose .

2003 Mazda Thermastat

I had the same problem a couple of years ago. It is actually located on the bottom of the engine. I have no clue why. They are usually located on the top for easy access. Follow the hose coming from the bottom of the radiator to the engine block.

Could be just the OIL COOLER. VW IS CORRECT.
If the oil cooloer fails internely you will have a mix of coolant and oil. In the engine and in the Radiator,

But not to say the other guys were wrong...
