I just went through the same problem this year twice. My car started smoking some, and I notice a trial of fluid on the road both times. I'm not sure but my car problems may have started when I got my Transmission flushed.

My car has 100,000 miles and I drive my car pretty hard.

I was first told the torque converter went out. Then I was told the Fuel pump needed to be changed. After being without a car for threes months, I just brought a new transmission and had it shipped to the shop.

From researching online, I think the fragile "Wave spring" in the transmission needs to be replaced and the new version of the "Wave Spring" is a solid & thick metal ring.

Secondly, the Mechanic will need a alignment tool to put the transmission back together properly. The tool is called Sonnex or made by the company I think.

Let me know what you find out.

Also only use Transmission fluid for Mitsubishi Eclipse only.

1. Torque Converter
2. Transmission "Wave Spring" broken pieces of the wave spring may damage other parts as it flows through the system or the fuel pump I think.

I got my car back from the Transmission shop with a new Transmission and this one also quit on me. I have the car at the dealership this time to look everything over.

I scarred of the price estimate it will cost to fix this car.

Two different transmission crashed less then 6 months apart in my Mitsubishi Eclipse.

I may I have to fix this car and sale it.

I have spent over $4,000 on this transmission & Labor at local Transmission shop and the car still will not go forward or backwards.

Transmission Fluid could wrong type. Transmission may have overheated and is now destroyed. Do you smell or see any light smoke? Your Gear & Ratios maybe be way off. I have spare transmission in the garage...and my current one are having the same problem your having for the 3rd time this year.

1999 mitsubishi eclipse automatic transmission wont shift into 4th gear.

First off.. If you have a check engine light on, Find someone with an OBD2 READER or buy one yourself(very good tool to have) and that will give you the code(s) to your problem..

If not.. Check ALL your fuses..

If those are good and you DO NOT have a sealed tranny.. Check your fluid..

If all the above check out good.. It's gonna be 1 of 2 things..

1. Your overdrive is either turned off and/or damaged.. (Over drive on: uses all 4 gears/Over drive off: uses only 3 gears)

2. Your shift silonoid pack is damaged, which normally when this happens your car goes into a thing called "dummy mode" and keeps the tranny ONLY in 2nd gear..

Now assuming your car shifts into every other gear just fine.. And the fact that normally reverse is the first gear to go out.. I'm gonna say it's your overdrive or a relay that runs with your overdrive..

Let me know what happens or if you have anymore questions..

Why won't my chevrolet silverado move when put in gear?

Hi, I am guessing it is an automatic transmission. Try putting the gear shift lever into a lower gear and see if it moves then. Sometimes the shift linkage gets mal-adjusted. I would also check the transmission fluid level. If it is really low, the tranny will not work either. If the fluid is really low, you'll need to look for a leak after you refill it. I am assuming that the transmission worked when you picked it up from the shop that repaired it.

What are some issues to look for that would cause car not to move in any gear, but you can feel it wants to go when raising rpms. Could this be the trans is gone or something minor. Helping a friend and...

Lets assume the park brake is off. If you put it in gear, forward or reverse and the engine revs but care doesn't move, you are either very low on automatic transmission fluid or the transmission is burned up. Check the fluid level. If normal smell the fluid. If it smells burned, there is no doubt that the transmission is burned up.

2001 mitsubishi eclipse. Automatic transmission

Transmission may be low on transmission fluid or the transmission fluid pump failed. If it's electrical, you can still get it in to gear, but would not shift gears. Good luck and keep me posted, check transmission fluid level and have the transmission line pressure tested. Before that check all your fuses.

I expect you are having internal issues within the tranny. There are valves within in that, from time to time, may fail. Soory to say but from this vantage point I suspect you'll need to drp the tranny and rebuild or replace with another used/rebuild.

I hope this may have asisted you,

Won't accelerate properly

HI, sounds like a tranny issue. you will need to check the fluid level in the transmission. if the level is proper, this will confirm gear pack failure. you will need to rebuild the tranny soon. you ca inspect the condition of the transmission by dropping the pan. if you notice any metal fragment on the bottom of the pan, this will confirm major gear friction and failure.

This is major slippage.
