They need to warm up a little. GM has a program in it to keep people from killing a cold transmission by trying to drive on it. It's the nature of a HD transmission.

Most likely in this severe weather the fluid and the bands in the transmission need time to circulate and warm up. It is a good idea in severe weather to allow a vehicle to warm up for at least 4 - 6 minutes before driving it. Remember that oils and lubricants get very thick in cold weather.

Freelander starts, revs well but doesnt move off sharply, what may be the cause?

Check transmission fill and differential fills for proper levels. Also, if temperature is cold, allow vehicle to warm up with transmission in forward gear for about ten seconds before moving to allow fluids to move freely along channels in transmission. In extremely cold climates, some change may be needed in viscosity of fluids. See your dealer for information on this. You didn't indicate how cold it is where you are driving, but low fluid levels, lack of adequate lubrication or severe cold can be a cause of this problem.

Engine oil for cold climates 5w-30. Warmer climates 10w-30. Any Auto-zone parts store person at the counter would be more than helpful choosing the correct fluids for your vehicle.

Well when you are in cold weather and after a high mileage. The Transmission solenoids fails when its cold and they get stuck for a moment and all i can say is that you warm your car for a while before you leave your house and thats good for the engine too and aslo will keep your car running for a long time. Good luck

If it didn't do it before they flushed the transmission, I'd say they did something wrong. Either they didn't hook something back up properly or they may have even filled it with the wrong type transmission fluid. There are 2 types, and it can really screw things up if they put the wrong one in it.

I would take this car and get the transmission fluid and filter changed ASAP. Acting sluggish when cold is a sign of a dirty transmission filter.

codes will verify if it needs to be pulled out. More than likely it will as the electronics are rarely the problem. The computer senses a indifference in the ratio between the sensors so it locks it in limp mode - 2nd gear.
