Sounds to me like the shifter cable/linkage is out of adjustment. There should be an adjustment nut on the drivers side of the transmission. I'm sorry that I can't tell you which way to adjust it, either in or out.

Putting the trans in park wont hold the car at all, It goes into the park position but the car still rolls.The rest of the trans works great
The parking pawl inside the transmission is likely broken off. Fairly expensive to fix, sorry.
