I would check transfer case for an electronic solenoid that engages the front driveline Don't know if they have a separate cicuit in fuse box but worth a check. A repair manual could be of help and determine if you have a bad solenoid or wiring problem.

Why does my 89 s10 4 cylinder run for a while then just die?

just guessing but could be bad gas (use gas line antifreeze, and add new gas) or it could be a coil breaking down once it gets hot. Check gas line filter and make sure gas is flowing freely.

Problems with chevy s10

have the actuator (mounted on the drivers side transfer case) checked. that is what makes the selection from 2-4 hi-4 low. it takes the place of a gear shift. they are a fairly inexpensive and easy repair (if thats the problem). i would start there providing you have checked the fuses and relays. i hope this helps.

2001 s10 4wd dosen't engage

Check actuator under battery to see if it moves when you put in 4 wheel drive. This has an arm on it which pulls a cable in on front diff.sometimes the actuator boot will tear as it is like a rubber boot.

1991 S10 blazer 4x4 4.3 popping coming from the front

the popping sound is the stabilizer links or the lower control arm bushings you can replace all bushings and both link kits for around 50.00 and the light is prob from the sensor on the transfer case or the front end i would remove and clean with dawn dishwashing liquid and put them back.

1989 s10

not sure on the book procedure, but on my 91 4x4 extended cab I had to undo the u joint caps on both ends, then colapse the shaft as short as it will go by pushing back the slip yoke. Then you need to move the front of the shaft in by the trans and as far forward as you can. it will be right along side the yoke you unbolted it from and the u joint has to be turned just right for maximum room, but this should give you enough room to force the tail of the shaft pass the crossmember. Its very tight.
