1995 jeep grand cherokee, used scanner, says map sensor below minimal input voltage, also trouble code 35 from dash light

  • jalansen Dec 13, 2009

i turned key on off on off on watched the check engine light flash, i have changed the throttle sensor, and air control valve, crank sensor, check engine light is now off, but scanner still shows map sensor low mininal volts, even after changing map sensor, will have to wait till morning when engine is cold to see if it is still hard to start when cold, runs fine when warmed up, however sometimes hard to restart , like when you take the vacuum hose off the map sensor, put it back on and it will start , that is why i changed the map sensor just in case it was faulty, have also checked for vacuum leaks , map sensor hose was the only one replaced it , will see in morning.

I looked up that code 35 and that is related to the radiator fan relay. there is no idle relay but there is an idle control motor on the back drivers side of the throttle plate. that is what controls the idle via the computer. there is no relay for that circuit. what did you use to get the code? and where did you get that codes description? maybe i can help more if i had more info.

what seems to be the trouble with the vehicle?

okay. if you have a volt meter you need to check the sensors reference voltage. it is 5 volts and it is the purple with white tracer wire that needs to be 5 volts dc key on. then the black with light blue is the sensor ground and need to see ground. now the red with white wire is the signal wire back to the computer. if you have 5 volts on the purple and the black has ground you need to check what is on the signal wire red. it should be 0.5 - 1.5 at idle and 1.5 - 3.0 in a cruise/driving mode and 3.0 -4.5 in hard acceleration. sensor range is 0.5 - 4.5 anything out of that range can mean faulty sensor or vacuum leak if beloew 0.5 . now if you didn't have the 5 volts to the sensor to begin with you will need to check that wire from computer to sensor and take a voltage reading at computer to make sure it is coming out of the computer. anything in the mid 4 volt or higher range to the sensor is fine.

let me know how you make out and good luck

Their isnt one as such, the idle is controlled by the air flow metering sensor which feeds information to the ECU which in turn tells the injectors how much fuel to allow through depending on the rate of air passing over the meter sensor. So if you are showing a fault code which can be read on these older vehicles unlike the new ones ,then the metering valve is faulty or their is a serious vacumn loss by one of the rubber take off pipes that control the heater flaps ,brake servo ,vapour extraction ,and if its a californian model?? well they are well beyond me ,because in spain we have jeeps and they are popular but mainly diesels ,at about 1 euro a litre for petrol and a 4 litre engine .You cannot give them away ,like a jag or anything else with an engine over 1600cc .So firstly listen for a hissing noise from the inlet manifold area ,then if nothing found change the air flow metering valve ,its situated in the inlet manifold intake pipe.

Where is the horn relay location for a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited? Thank you.

Hi, the horn relay is located under the glove box base that is secured by several screws. Pull the box covering out and you will see the relay box with 6 relays together ( 3 top row and 3 bottom row). The horn relay is located on the bottom row, all the way left. Or the first one on the left bottom row.

Where is the horn relay located on a 95 jeep grand cherokee?

On my 95 Jeep Cherokee Laredo, the horn relay is in a compartment under the glove box. Open the glove box and remove the three screws in the front on the bottom. Take the plastic cover out and you'll see a bank of relays. The horn relay is the one on the far left, closest to you.
