I had this same problem and there was an electrical problem in the ignition cylinder. I replaced the cylinder and the problem was solved. Searching the internet, you'll find that the early malibus have a problem with the ignition and the theft control system. You can still turn the engine over, but no or intermittent spark will not allow it to fire.

Yes try to warm the car,,,if there is any condensation in the gas line it will freeze,,freezing at 32 degrees,,,so after you warm the car & it starts buy some dry gas

1987 Ford Econoline fuel system

First check fuse in fuse box that powers fuel pump. If this is ok then turn key but do not start just till gage lights come on and listen for humming noise in gas tank, it will only run a few seconds so you might have to do this several times to hear it. Is best to have someone listen around gas tank area while you turn key..If you do not hear humming noise then this would indicate that pump is not working and needs to be replaced.....good luck and if this info is a help then Please rate my post...

Car turns over but wont start what is wrong?

The car is either not getting gas or not getting spark. It could be a weak battery, bad spark plugs or wires, bad coil pack/distributor, clogged fuel filter or spark plugs, or a defective fuel pump. These are the most common causes of this problem and and except the fuel pump and sometime fuel filter are relatively easy to replace yourself. Good luck and happy hunting!

Turns over but doesnt want to start

A bad crank sensor (it has 2) is probably the reason, a very common issue. Replace the lower crank sensor.

I have a 87 chevy pick-up. It is not wanting to stay on. Have checked the fuel pump relay. It is not that. It seems it is not getting power to the fuel?? Not sure whats going on with it...

turn the key on and see if you can hear the fuel pump turn on then if it dont check the fuses and relays fi them are good your fuel pump is bad.

I have a 2001 chevy cavalier that ran fine yesterday and when i came out to go to interview the car would turn over however would not start. What should i do?

Im not real smart in cars but I know they can do crazy stuff all of a sudden :( First thing I would check (just from experience) would be the fuel pump, when you turn your key or ignition on, have someone open your gas tank lid and listen for any kind of hissing noise or electronic sounds, if you do hear something, its probably still good, if not thats more than likely your problem , if not that then I might think your not getting fire to the distributor cap. also, you might try a little drop of gas in the carborator to try to start it, if this doesnt help, I'd call a mechanic Sorry

1997 Chevy S-10 6 cylinder all of a sudden cut off and won't start back. It will turn over but seems like is not getting gas or is not firing one.

probably a fuel issue on this one. get a big hammer and have someone crank the vehicle whikle you bang the bottom of the tank. If it tries to start-suspect fuel pump.

My 2003 Chevy Malibu suddenly lost power climbing a hill. The engine light started flashing. I was able to drive it home at 30 mph.

Could either be the ignition system - ie, coil packs, fuel filter, fuel pump, or bad gas. Was it sputtering?

most of fuel pumps were in tank, wire corrodes is harness under right front seat floor pan to tank
if fuel pump buzz is heard and car runs and when it doesnt run you cant hear the fuel pump try
turn ignition off wait 10 seconds
turn ignition to on position to (prime or hear pump buzz)
no buzz fuel pump not working check fuel pump relay(swap with another) and try again?
you could use test light to pump wiring and make sure your getting power to pump on this prime test no power relay or wiring problem.
power at pump, but no buzz fuel pump faulty

No fuel to the injectors on a 1997 Chevy c1500.

can be the distributor or maybe the fuel pump let the truck sit and then turn key almost on but not enough to initiate start up and see if you hear pump in the gas tank and if thats not it, it could very well be your distributor it might  be moist in the cap or button area
