Under the hood in the fuse box all the big square ones are the relays. activate the horn again then remove them one at time to locate the horn relay, when found rotate with known good one. If this doesnt locate the problem the then problem is in the steering wheel.

How can I remove the horn relay from a 1995 buick lesabre

I believe it is the fourth relay from the left passenger side in the engine compartment against the firewall. I am assuming your horn intermittently goes off by itself. It's a interior heat related issue. The horn pad cover on the steering wheel has a membrane layer. It's basically a switch that has one wire that goes to the horn relay to activate the horn. The Buick GM logo embossed on this plastic cover is where I found it most sensitive to any light touch. Unhook the battery. If you carefully cut the right edge of the the steering wheel horn pad and carefully pry it out a little, it will fix this issue and still be able to use the horn. It's another GM defect. I hope this helps! Let me know.

Why horn on 2001 Windstar comes on solid and will not turn off till disconnect battery?

There is a thing called a clock spring in the steering wheel. It will fail over time. Replace this part.

Is the air bag light lit on the instrument cluster ? The horn relay isn't under the hood in the engine compartment , it's in the SJB - smart junction box located inside the passager compartment . Under the dash panel left side . You can take the relay back to autozone because it's not the right one ! The relay is inside the smart junction box ,soldered to the printed circuit board !
Horn Horn
The vehicle is equipped with dual horns. The horns are mounted in the LF frame rail corner behind the front bumper.
The horn system consists of the following components:
  • steering wheel horn switches
  • clockspring
  • horns
  • smart junction box (SJB)
Horn Switch, Steering Wheel Mounted
The horn switches are incorporated within the driver side air bag module in the steering wheel. The switches are grounded and control the horns through the clockspring. For removal and installation of the driver side air bag module, refer to Section 501-20B .

Horn blows constantly, doesn,t blow the fuse or anything else. can this problem be outside of the horn blowing assy. on the steering wheel? it,s a 2000 galant. problem occurs all the time if the switch is...

  • The horn relay might have welded contacts (stuck in the on position). Pulling the relay should stop the horn.
  • The wiring harness on the steering column might have a broken wire to the horn relay shorting to someplace that applies power to the relay. In this case, turning the steering wheel all the way to one side or the other may stop the horn, and it won't sound when you press the horn button.
  • The horn button in the steering wheel is stuck on or shorted.

My horn doesnt work

Once you checked the Fuse as OK ( engine compartment fuse panel, fuse #7 ) , might want to try shorting the Normally Open contacts in the Horn relay, to see if it is the horn, or the switch from the steering wheel.

Pull the Horn relay ( Ford 1/2 ISO relay ) Relay 205 in the same fuse panel in the engine compartment ). Looking into the relay socket, you will see 2 sets of pin terminals that are the width of the narrow direction, and 2 that are point the length.
The 2 pin terminals that are the direction of the narrow width of the socket, jumper with a 16/18 AWG, and the horns should sound.

If the horns do not sound, check the pin terminal #3 for +12 V DC ( hot all the time ) with a known good ground ( lug in the fender or the neg side of the battery.
If this checks OK, with the jumper in place, pull the horn connector, and check for +12 V DC on one of the pins, to a known good ground ( fender lug where the headlamps are grounded ).
Horns are behind the bumper on the passenger side, directly below the headlamp.
Next test the same, using both pins in the horn connector.
If you have +12 and ground at the horn connector, the horns are the problem for some reason.

If the horns honk doing the jumper test, work back towards the horn button / clock spring area.
Pin terminal #1 in the socket should be hot all the time, and the pin # 2 is what ground is switched to from the horn button, to activate the coil in the relay.

If you do not have ground at Pin #2 when pressing on the horn, try tilting the steering wheel all the way to the up position and try again ( some times the connector at the base of the steering wheel column pulls apart ).
If the tilt does not change getting ground to the horn relay, the next step would be to test the clock spring, but this requires removing the airbag, and really should be a professional job.

Position in car of the horn relay

one relay is going to work both horns if there are two horns.
horns are different than relays.
all horns are ran from one relay.
the horns are only different in sounds.
if one horn is not working and the other is its the horn itself.
disconnect the horn itself and listen for the relay clicking .
