My 1999 dodge ram 5.2 liter 5 speed will start up and idle fine. when driving it down the road it will run fine until you go to stop. When you press in the cluth the truck will die. it usually starts again right away, but you have to keep reving it up so it doesnt die, and it chugs taking off. I replaced an 02 sensor and a fuel pump and still does it.
It runns OK when you first start it? This is a stick shift truck? They are prone to a vacume leak in the bottom of the intake manifold. To checki this pu;; the PCV valve out of the valve cover and plug the hole in the cover and let the valve just hang there, Remove the hose from the other side valve cover and plug the valve cover ( the hose goes to the air filter housing ) Run the truck with both of these plugged and if it fixes the problem. Remove the intake manifold and change the gaskets. This is a common problem and for a while there the dealers were covered up with this job.
This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control
