Question about 1989 Ford Mustang

When I start my car in the morning it dies. It takes about 4 to 6 times until it will idle on its own. It is a Mustang LX 5.0 with an AOD trans. I have a Trick Flow upper and lower intake with a 3/8 spacer. I also up graded with a 65MM throttle body and 70MM MAF. Also have stock fuel injectors with a 190LPH fuel pump. It has 2-1/4 IN shorty headers into 2.5 IN dual exhaust. I had the heads rebuilt and the short block replaced. What would cuase this? Thank You Joe

I have a 1989 gt and it was the iac valve replaced it and its fine now

I have a new 570 cfi carboretor on my 1965 ford mustang it will not idle and when accerated it takes a moment to slow down


It's been a long time. So, first Back the idle screw off to carb, then screw it back in until you see the throttle plate begin to move, slightly. It has to be open a bit. Then you have two screws at the bottom front of the carb. Left side is for low idle and right side is for fast. Turn them both to closed. Don't slam them shut, just until they are snug. Turn both of them open 1 and 3/4 turns. Start the car and let it warm up to operating temperature. adjust the left side first. Close it until the engine starts to sputter or die, raise it back a hair. Then go to the right side and do the same. Adjust the idle screw to 600 or 900 RPM's. depending on auto or manual transmission. Do all this one more time and you are set to go.

Start by checking for vacuum leaks, compression then a scan for fault codes. One of those should turn up a problem

I am having trouble starting my 1991 ford mustang lx 4 cyl 3.2 l when it dose start it runs really ruff and when i put it in gear and press on the gas pedal it does not accelerate but acts like it is not...


I would check the timing could have jumped a tooth on the timing belt/chain. Also check the rotor in the distributer make sure that it is not worn out. I have also seen a plugged catletic converter cause big time power loss and really strange problems

That switch is in the trunk behind the plastic on the driver side by the taillights

My 1989 Mustang LX 5.0 is idleing funny and sputtering


While it is possible, it is not probable that it is the timing chain. It is extremely rare that a timing chain would go out on a 5.0. I would look towards spark and fuel delivery in that order.

Have the charging system check or take alternator off and have it check the *** might be bad. Listen for the full pump to pressureize the injectors. One big thing check the timing belt to make sure it has not jump time.

check all of the vaccum lines and the one behind the throttle body and the EGR valve and the vaccum pump.

that trnas will not bolt up and since you don't have a computor control the trans wount interface with the harness it requires which you do not have on your vehicle. please rate this solution
