If the car cranks and doesnt start check for spark.

If you have spark then check for fuel. You should be able to check for fuel by bleeding the valve on the fuel rail after cycling the key on and off a couple times.

If you have fuel and spark you may have lost timing. This will involve a mechanic at this point.

Good luck and be safe!

Turn on ignition and no power to ignition switch or insterment panal but have head and tail lights batttery good

First check if the ignition switch is getting power-either through a maxi fuse in your under hood fuse/relay box, or a fusible link coming from a battery source.

97 cavalier cranks will not start theft light stays on

Is the security light flashing? If so, turn ignition on and wait for 10 minutes and light should stay on solid. Then try and start the car without turning the ignition back off. Then turn off ignition and wait 1 minute. Then turn ignition on and see if security light is flashing. If not try and start your car. If it is flashing, try waiting again with just the ignition on and see if it goes out.

THE VAN STARTED RIGHT UP AND I PUT IT IN REVERSE AND STARTED TO MOVE AND THEN THE VAN WENT DEAD. HEAD LIGHTS ARE OUT, DOME LIGHT IS OUT. BREAK LIGHTS WORK AND SOME DASH LIGHTS WORK. THE VEHICLE HAS ENOUGH...

I would guess that you either blew a main ignition fuse or the ignition switch melted.
The brake lights and starter don't use the ignition circuit.
You need to trace with a test light.
See if current comes out of ignition switch when you turn it on.
It has to be going into the switch for the starter to crank.
As to what blew the fuse, it could be a short in the backup light circuit?

When i put the key in the ignition the dash lights don't light up

Measure for the ignition voltage at the fuse panel. If you get this voltage right away, and the lights "pop on" later, then most likely a relay in the fuse panel. If the voltage appears at the same time as the lights, then it looks more like the ignition switch itself.
