Question about 1996 Lexus LX 450

2 Answers

What is the process to remove the starter from 1996 Lexus LX450. I tried, but could not get a wrench or socket on the nut nor was I able to unplug the connections. I am assuming my problem is the starter. Once in a while I get a click when I turn the ignition switch. I eliminated the battery as the problem by replacing the battery and once we putt booster cables on when this problem occured. I als gives a different sound when the gear shift is in one of the drive positions. I am thinking that the back of the egine my have to be droped to get at the starter. did not want to try this without asking. So far repeated turns eventually starts (as many as fifty). Cold weather does not seem to affect as it worked fine this week when the temperature was in the 20's. I have not been able to determine if this model has a remote solenoid. If so and I nderstand the function of the remote solenoid is the provide a boosted current to the starter. It does not appear to have a remote solenoid, bur if I am wrong that is an easy replacement.

The starter is easily accessed from the drivers side wheel well. turn the wheel all the way to the right and move the plastic piece . the top bolt is right there. the bottom is accessed from underneith. make sure to take the positive cable off battery before removing starter there is one nut and a sensor plug in. the top faces the front and the bottom faces back. not very hard at all just did mine last week took about an hour 14mm is the bolt size if i remmember right

Actually you have to access the starter from the top. the starter is located in the valley under the intake manifold. once you get the manifold off the starter is easy change, the difficult part of this job is disassembly and re-assembly without breaking anything and not leaving anything unplugged or connected during re-assembly.

What tools do i need to remove a 1996 lexus es 300 cv axle from the transmission

You will need a lug wrench for the wheel, a jack, a jack stand, 14mm socket and ratchet for disconnecting the lower ball joint, a 32mm socket and impact wrench for the axle nut, a dead-blow (no-bounce) hammer to tap axle from steering knuckle, and then there are two options.

Left (driver) side: a pry bar to pop the axle from the differential (pry between diff. housing and axle knuckle. This can be really stuck so don't be afraid to put some power to it!)

Right (pass.) side: snap ring pliers to remove snap ring from carrier mount (rear engine mount houses this carrier bearing), and i think a 14mm socket or wrench to loosen the jam bolt that keeps the bearing outer race from spinning.

Good luck and be safe!!

How to remove the starter

Welcome to Fixya

Here's the procedure on how to replace/remove the starter.

Loosen the negative battery terminal on the car and pull the terminal away from the battery. Place the wheel chocks behind the rear tires.

Jack the car using the automobile jack and place a jack stand under the frame near the jacking point. Raise the jack stand to the frame.

Remove the three bolts that hold the starter to the engine using a socket and ratchet. Remove the starter away from the engine so you can gain access to the wires.

Remove the main wire from the starter using a wrench to remove the nut and then unplug the wire harness.

Pull the old starter away from the engine and put the new one into place. Reconnect the wires by plugging the wiring harness back in and securing the main wire back to the post, tightening the nut with a wrench.

Push the starter into place on the engine and start all three bolts by hand. Tighten the bolts using a socket and ratchet.

Remove the jack stand from under the car and lower the car back to the ground. Start the car to test the installation.

Where do i go to find instructions on how to change a power steering pump for a 1992 lexus es300

This job is relatively straight-forward, however, the key to completing it in one shot is to have all the tools beforehand. Ratching-head box wrenches are wonderful for this job. A long handled socket wrench helps for leverage, and six-point sockets are a must if you don't want to round off any bolt heads. I rounded off one of them and had to buy fluted bolt remover sockets in order to finally get it loose.
Tools Needed:
  • Pliers
  • Screwdrivers
  • Sockets and socket wrenches
  • Ratcheting box wrenches / box wrenches
Parts/Supplies Needed:
  • Rebuilt P/S pump, OR P/S pump rebuild kit
  • New copper crush washer for high pressure line
  • A few feet of new 3/8" return hose
  • 2 hose clamps for new hose
  • Optional: bolt to plug ACV (air control valve) hole (labeled IAC in pics below), OR new ACV valve
  • Turkey baster OR fluid pump to remove fluid
  • Engine degreaser OR brake cleaner
  • Shop towels, rags
1) Disconnect battery, remove air intake and engine covers . Follow steps 3-10.
2) Loosen the 17mm nut holding the pulley to the P/S pump. Keep the drive belt on while loosening this nut since it will provide some tension. The nut is threaded normally (righty-tighty, lefty-loosey). I soaked the nut with some penetrating oil for a few minutes before taking a long-handled ratchet and tapping it with a hammer a few times. Using a large screwdriver to stop the pulley from turning was the key to loosening it.

How do I remove Head Light assembly on my 1999 Lexus RX 300

After removing the top and side bolts (which are obvious) Go to the fender liner. Remove all but the top screw . You will find (by flashlight or shop light) two bolts coming out of the headlight rear. With a socket wrench and 10mm socket, remove the two nuts on the headlight and pull out the headlight from the front after insuring the bulbs are removed and identified for reinstall. Take your time. It is not difficult.

Your starter is below the air box, where air filter is. Remove air box and you will se the starter. Unplug battery. Remove nut (with 12mm wrench) which is connected to the starter, Nut is hidden under a rubber boot to prevent shorting out. unplug a single wire connector, which comes out of the starter solenoid. Starter is beeing held by 2 bolts. Remove 2 bolts, which you will be able to see and take out starter. Reverse procedure to install new starter. Reconnect battery.Start vehicle.
