Question about 1992 Honda Accord

Driving on interstate and car started running hot. Heater was working and blowing hot air. Had steam coming from under hood. Top Radiator hose was hot but bottom hose was cool. Could it be a blown heater core return hose? 1992 Honda Accord

    Where was the steam coming from? If it was coming from the radiator cap, that would suggest that the cap has failed in regard to keeping the pressure in the system. Might change that first to see what happens. Also, yes it could be either of the hoses that go to the heater core, but if it is any of the hoses you should be able to detect the leak, especially if you have anti-freeze in the car.

It seems as if there is a clog in the radiator, flush out coolant system and see if this helps.usually when top hose is hot and bottom hose is cold there is a clog somewhere in system. check radiator and make sure coolant is circulating. hope this helps carl,

What would be leaking under my radiator on the drivers side?


It sounds like your thermostat is stuck closed. Your thermostat also acts as a heater valve to let hot coolant go to your heater core to blow hot air if your thermstat is stuck close it prevents your coolant to run through your radiator to cool down and to blow hot air from your heater core. A way to check to see if your thermostat is working while its at operating temp feel the bottom and top radiator hose if your lower hose is cold and top is hot your thermo is stuck closed but be careful hoses might be very hot

Heater runs but does not heat


If it is blowing air at different speeds inside the car, I think you are saying the blower works fine, but blows no heat.
If it is running different speeds but is not blowing inside the car, you probably have a plastic flap inside the heater assembly inside the car that is not opening, not allowing the air to come in.
That might likely be a vacuum issue, or maybe a mechanical one. (whatever is supposed to open the flap)

If the flap is working and you are getting different amounts of air inside the car according to the speed of the blower fan setting you have selected, go to the engine temperature.
Is the radiator getting hot?
Have you a temperature gauge to tell if the engine is hot?
If not, you will need to warm up the engine, and then determine if there is hot water in the radiator.
If you pull off the cap to see, it could blow up on your face, so you will need to find someone who can help you with this.
If the radiator is hot after about 10-15 minutes of the motor running, you are perhaps not getting hot water to the heater.
You would need to check the temperature control to see if it is working. This is often a mechanical switch located near the firewall of the Jeep under the hood. Usually it is the size of a small fist, and has a heater hose running into and out of it, and has a wire attached to the top.
It might have a wire to it that should move when you select hot or cold inside the jeep at the control panel. Sometimes the control wire will rust or break.. The heater hoses should be hot if the hot water is running through them.
If your radiator is low on coolant, often the heater inside the car will not work.

STEAM COMING OFF ENGINE


check top radiator hose goes to thermostat housing sound like its leaking if your engine leaking from left driver side on top of engine it has to be top radiator thermostat hose leaking.wait until engine cool down replace top radiator hose see if coolant leaking still occur if so you could have radiator leak.

My 2001 toyota tundra heater wont blow hot air. I checked to see if the heater core is cloged it seems fine the heater control valve is operating properly, and I changed the thermastat. and yet the heater...


If you've changed the coolant recently, it could be air locked in the heater core. To remove park the truck with the front higher than the back and remove the radiator cap. Start the engine and let it run while watching for a big air bubble burp coming out the radiator neck. Top off the coolant and continue.

Air conditioner and heater work only intemittently


bad vacuum line... with engine running open hood and listen for a hissing sound....check all vacuum hoses for cracks then replace them... also listen under the dash inside the car

could be a lot of different things. bad heater core, cracked, ripped, or soft hoses, crack in the radiator, bad thermostat, clogged lines. next time you run the vehicle, try to see if you can see under the hood to see where the steam is coming from. that will help you to see if there is a bad line or hose. then try to flush the radiator to see if there is a clog in the lines. then go to get a new thermostat if none of those. then you get into the more expensive items the heater core and the radiator.

Blowing Cold Air


Sounds like a heater core. Check the passenger side floor board. Sometimes when these go out there will be some water on the passenger side floor. Hope this helps some.

Overheating while just idling


Hi my name is Allen!
The first thing you need to do is check for coolant leaks, I suggest this because you seen steam coming from under the hood. Various places to check would be the radiator, hoses, water pump, heater core, head gaskets, freeze-plugs. Check the level of coolant in the radiator, but only after the engine has had time to cool-down because you could be seriously burnt by removing the cap if it has not cooled.

If the radiator is full then other causes could be; the radiator fan not working properly, the thermostat could be sticking closed, the system could be restricted not allowing coolant flow unless driving vehicle, and the water pump could be defective. These are just a few possible causes!

  1. Sometimes the steam from under the hood, because it is over heat.

  1. Check the water hose include the heater hose, it is a smaller hose behind the engine on the top near the back of the hood, find out which hopes is leaking.

  1. If the hose is OK, check the freeze plug on the engine, because if the engine is too old, maybe the plug was rust and leaking, when it’s leaking, the engine is hot, you will see the steam under the hood.

  1. When engine is hot, you have to be very carefully, do not open the water cap, if you want to open, you have to either wait a while or use a heavy towel to cover the radiator cap, then open it.

  1. Maybe the radiator is leaking.
