Which transfer case do you have? Does it have AWD or 4WD? Does it only do it while the steering wheel is being turned, or all the way through the turn?

If it does it only while turning the steering wheel, there is a bushing in the steering column that is making noise. I have seen this happen on an '00 and '01. If it is making noise all the way through the turn, and you have AWD, it probably is the front axle. A neighbor of mine had this happen on her '00. Turns out the front axle wasn't filled properly from the factory. Added the appropriate amount of gear oil and noise went away.

If you have 4WD, make sure you're not driving around with the transfer case locked in.

Get 1988 jeep cherokee out of 4 wheeldrive

one of your tires is probably lower than the other. for a blessed red than the other tires. causative to turn at different speeds. the easiest way to get it out is to raise the vehicle up so all 4 tires off the ground.

happens with me all the time in my 97 Grand Cherokee

I have an 08 Jeep Liberty.Whenever the traction control kicks in it makes a growling noise.Any ideas what this could be?

The "growling " noise that you're hearing is the ABS pump being activated. Anytime the Traction Control System is activated or detects wheel spin/slippage, the ABS module will activate the pump because of the wheel speed variations. It is nothing wrong with the vehicle unless the TCS or ABS lights come on and stay on.

Humming noise from front left side

you're on the right track. it sounds like the right wheel bearing is causing the noise.

Humming noise from front left side

I hate to say it, but it sounds like something in the differential - transmission. The part about the noise and coasting fits a differential bearing noise. Making turns could put extra load on the bearings and gears in the transmission.

it is difficult to make sharp turns while in 4 wheel drive on a hard surface. If you are able to make sharp turn easily in 2 wheel drive then everything is probably OK. Check your owners manual and review the 4 wheel drive section, there is much to learn.

Sounds like bearings to me. Jack car up and check for play. may be hard to detect. May only be on one side. car is kind of new to have bearings going out. That it is quiet on turns is usually a dead giveaway, but usually only gets quiet when turning a certain direction and not the other.

Front Differential Noise

Did you ever change a fluid in your front and rear differential?

05 equnox sharp turn noise

I forgot to ask if the noise was front or rear and stationary or moving so I will cover both.

If the noise is while the truck is stationary and the noise is from the front I would have to say the power steering pump. I have been changing several lately for similar concerns.

As far as the rear if the noise happens while making sharp turns and makes a whirring/growling noise while in motion its the rear differntial. What you can do yourself to be sure is find an open lot and drive in rather tight circles for about a minute, then noise should stop. This action flushes the clutch disks and stops the noise. If the noise goes away you will need to do a rear diff flush.

The fluid is very expensive so be sure this is your problem first.

In order to do the flush drive in tight circles for 5 minutes in each direction and then drain and fill the rear diff with the new Versatrak fluid.

Good Luck
