Trying to replace battery. The old battery is 900 cranking amps and 720 cold cranking amps. The new battery I picked up at Costco is 875 and 700. Is that good enough?

Hey Denise,
Sounds like you may need a new battery. I would go to everyone's favorite place..Wal-Mart.. HAVE them check you batteries CCA (Cold Cranking Amps).. this will determine whether you need a battery or its something else wrong with your car...if it is the battery..get their best battery..they are guaranteed.. and if it ever fails, there is a Walmart every where and you get a replacement .. even at 3AM..
(I use 4 Everstart batteries in my bass boat)
There are two different engines Ford installed in the Windstar. The following information is assuming your vehicle has the 3.8 liter v-6...850 cold cranking amps, 750 cold cranking amps, 650 cold cranking amps, or 720 cold cranking amps. It is highly probable that your vehicle has the 3.8 liter, as 94% of Windstars had that engine installed. Hope this helps you out.
THE AUTO PARTS STORE WILL FIND WHAT BATTERY SIZE AND COLD CRANKING AMPS.JUST TELL THEM YOUR ENGINE SIZE AND FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM.TELLWILL FIND WHAT YOU NEED OR LOOK ON THE OLD BATTERY IN VECHICLE ITS HAS YOUR COLD CRANKING AMPS.
You sate you have the 2.6 liter engine. Is it four or six cylinders? The number of cylinders is also used to determine the correct battery amps. The following information is for the four cylinder engine...You can use any battery with at least 590 cold cranking amps, 620 cold cranking amps, or 720 cold cranking amps. The following is for the six cylinder engine...You can use any battery with at least 590 cold cranking amps, 620 cold cranking amps or 720 cold cranking amps. The auto parts store can help you decide the best battery for your vehicle.
is the battery holding a good charge.....check gauge on dash, the needle should show about 13v . Also if your battery is well over three years old ...get a new one..about 600-900 cold cranking amps! your belt could be worn too if its never been changed, i would advise that you change it, it will help the alternator keep your new battery charged properly.
A 550 CCA Battery would be ok. Your recommended Battery is 525 CCA. The extra 25 Amps would be ok and also give you that little extra bit on those colder days up there. Thanks for Using FixYa!
Depends on your funding. If you can spend a little more, get an Optima Red Top - they're between $110-130, but they're fantastic batteries. Tremendous power, very high cold-cranking amperage (upwards of 900 amps), and very fast recovery time.
The main thing to look into is the cranking amperage and the cold-cranking amperage (these are listed on the battery's label). The more the better, so get as much as you can afford.
