Question about 2000 Ford Focus

1 Answer

When slowing down ford focus stops, this does not happen all the time, it seems very random. Have had car to mechanic 3 times he does not know . Suggested it was an electrical problem, electrician thinks it is a mechanic problem. as soon as car stops it usually starts up again straight away or within minutes.

I'd make sure that the transmission is shifting all the way down to 1st gear at the right time. If it stays in 2nd too long it can drag the engine down even make it quit all together.

2004 Ford Focus ZX5 - car skips beats/rhythm while idling. Random w/ no set pattern.

can be a few ideas: check plug wires, misfiring, check the plug, if you dont have plugs, than check the [ where the plug should be]
it could be the timing belt slipping, in the 1970 we had timing chains that would last for every, but some one got idea is to put a belt in so at 60-70 thousand miles you need to replace timing belt.

Under the glove box is a fuse box, put your hand up behind it and make sure all the plugs going into fuse box are in correctly. had a few with plugs not cottectly installed, and it caused all kinds of strange things.

Ford Focus Engine Light

Start by getting either a mechanic or someone with an OBDII scanner to read the code so you know where to start. Lots of time a loose gas cap will cause a "Evap system small leak" code which illuminates the check engine light for a while. Other than that I can't help you much without knowing what code comes up.

Car slows to nothing

It's possible (= probably not) that the catalytic convertor has failed and debris is randomly clogging the muffler.

The next time it occurs, leave it idling and listen at the tailpipe of the exhaust system.
If you hear a pronounced hiss instead of the throbbing of the engine, the exhaust system is at fault.
