Why wont my 1995 jeep cherokee stay started?

if you had corroded battery terminal look around the battery +ve terminal to see if there is another smaller guage wire that may have corroded through and fallen off. The big cable you cleaned powers the starter , the other wire powers the ignition and may need connecting.

Jeep starts but stop soon as u relaese the key

I think you may have a worn out ignition switch! The on position might be bad and all the works is the start position.

You can check to see if the engine is getting power with the key in the on position. If it isn't, you need a new one!

The alternator or coil positive contacts are good places to check for juice! You can use a test light and watch the light go on and off.

Good luck and be careful!

1990 jeep cherokee starts but when you let off the key it dies already replaced thi ign switch

the fuel pump runs on 2 diffierint circuts. one when the key is engaging the starter motor when you are starting the engine, and the other is to power the fuel pump after you release the key when the engine is running. there is a resistor on the drivers side on top of the inner fender that you can over ride with a jumper wire to check. if it needs to be replace its about $5.00. (its a ceramic thing about 2 inches long and bout 3/4 inches square.

Wont stay running

This sounds like it is your ignition module not sending message o your computer letting know that the key is in the ignition and the car has been started. Replace the ignition module

2000 jeep grand cherokee- ignition key will not turn. I have pressed down on brake. steering wheel is not locked. gear shift is in park.

take a small hammer and tap the lock cylinder where the key goes in then retry. if this does work you should have the lock cylinder replaced soon as it has internal problems

As soon as I turn the key to the on position, the engine turns over

The problem is either in the mechanism that pushes the rod that activates the ignition switch from the key lock cylinder, or the ignition switch is defective.
