Question about 1999 Oldsmobile Silhouette

Where is the TPS sensor loocated on a 1999 oldsmobile silhouette van? I am attempting to do this on my own. The van does not accelerate normally when I pull out. Once I am on the freeway or at higher speeds is seem to be fine. Once I come to a stop light and try to accelerate it does the same again. Just the initial acceleration from a stop. I was told it could be this. Got a good deal at junk yard to see if it is before looking at transmission.

Follow the accumulator cable from the firewall to the intake manifold/throttle body air tube.

It will end right next to the TPS.

TPS is a 3 wires electronic unit.

Please rate my answer is it's helpful to you.

What tools would be needed to replace a throttle position sensor on a 1995 Oldsmobile Silhouette 3.8 V6 van?

The two screws and the electrical connector are all that need to come off the TPS to remove it. I dont know of any other componants that you need to remove to get to it. The screws are either a 7mm socket or a T15 or T-20 Torx bit. It is normally on the backside of the throttle body, so on the van you'll have to "crawl-in" to reach it.

The TPS only goes on one way, just line up the "D" shaped slot on the sensor with the throttle shaft. Don't over tighten the screws, snug is good. You don't want to break them.

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

The fan relays or fan motor itself can be faulty that's why it tends to overheat. You will need to have it replaced if that's the case.

The motor shakes so bad it's because that you have a faulty TPS (throttle position sensor). If the TPS is faulty you'll have erratic idle.

One more reason why the engine shakes when driving is because the transmission fluid is burnt. If the fluid is burnt it tends not to shift so I suggest that you have the fluid replaced.

Hope this information was helpful enough and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!
