Check fuel pressure.The regulator may be faulty.Also the fuel filter may need to be changed.

Places who repair radios can order plugs for after market systems just take the model , make and serial no. When you order.

Check for leaking injectors,vacuum leaks,fuel pressure

Look at fuel trim on scanner

The front oxygen sensors get replaced every 100,000 miles,
so there may be some of the problems

Start with fuel trim,cylinder misfires,spark plugs, injectors, on that
bank, as a place to do your testing for the code

Look at freeze frame data & I/M Monitor activity, to see if the O2
Monitors ran clean & look at O2 data

You have to monitor the 0/2 voltage while artificially enriching the engine to see if the sensor is capable of responding or not. If it does respond, then you have to start looking for a cause of a lean mixture.

I have a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon, with a 2.7 odb2 scanner on it ... says it is bank 2 is running lean, but when you start it up it smells like it is running rich... Is it getting too much air or too much...


I'd trust the scanner and the exhaust sensor are giving you the correct information- running lean is too much oxygen in the exhaust. The mixture is too lean, whether from metered air (then the gas ratio is too little-check for fuel leaks if you smell gas around the engine. Check for cylinder misfires if you smell gas around the exhaust.), or from un-metered air.
The only two sensors that are for fuel requirements are the two front ones-on each bank of engine. The two rear sensors are for monitoring the efficiency of the catalytic converters.
Check the injectors on bank two. Possible that one of them is not letting in the required amount of fuel. Pull the spark plugs and read them. A good firing plug with the proper air/fuel mixture will have a brown or tan insulator and very little deposits on them or the electrodes. A misfiring plug may have black sooty deposits on it-you can spot it immediately. I don't know if the engine has run lean long enough, but a good firing plug in a lean mixture will have a blistered look to the insulator, like white or blanched. You may find a clue by reading the plugs.
Running lean in the worst case is a problem in the valve train, do a compression test if you haven't found the problem. Not a bad idea to clean the MAF sensor with maf cleaner, available just about anywhere.

I got a 2003 ford f150 4.2 liter. the check engine light and the fuel cap light is on. it run really rough and feels like its misfireing. i changed the fuel cap, but it didnt work. i put it on a code...


P0171 - System to Lean (Bank 1)
P0174 - System to Lean (Bank 2) Lack of fuel or too much air - unmetered air after the mass air flow sensor ! vacuumn leak . Not enough fuel - low fuel pressure , clogged injectors .
P0171 - System to Lean (Bank 1) The Adaptive Fuel Strategy continuously monitors fuel delivery hardware. The test fails when the adaptive fuel tables reach a rich calibrated limit. Refer to Section 1 , Powertrain Control Software, Fuel Trim for more information. Air Measurement System
  • MAF sensor (contaminated, damaged, malfunctioning, etc.)
Fuel System
  • Fuel pressure regulator (leaking, malfunctioning, etc.).
  • Fuel filter plugged, dirty.
  • Fuel pump (weak, check valve leaking, etc.).
  • Leaking/contaminated fuel injectors.
  • Low fuel pressure or running out of fuel.
  • EVAP canister purge valve leaking (when canister is "clean").
  • Fuel supply line restricted.
  • Fuel rail pressure sensor (incorrect reading).
Air Induction System
  • Air leaks after the MAF.
  • Vacuum Leaks.
  • PCV system (leak, valve stuck open, etc.)
  • Improperly seated engine oil dipstick.
Exhaust System
  • Exhaust leaks before or near the HO2Ss (exhaust manifold gasket, mating gaskets, etc.)..
EGR System
  • EGR valve tube/gasket leak
  • EVR solenoid vacuum leak
Secondary Air Injection
  • Damaged/malfunctioning secondary air injection system (mechanically stuck valve).
View Freeze Frame Data to determine operating conditions when DTC was set. Observe LONGFT1 and 2 PID(s). Refer to Section 2 , Adaptive Fuel DTCs Diagnostic Techniques for more information.
P0457 - EVAP Control System Leak Detected (Fuel Filler Cap Loose/Off) A fuel tank pressure change less than a minus (-) 7 inches of H 2 0 in 30 seconds has occurred after refueling; or there is excessive purge (fuel vapor) flow greater than 0.06 pounds per minute.
  • Fuel filler cap not installed on refueling (storing continuous memory DTC) and "Check Fuel Cap" light may also be illuminated.
  • Fuel filler cap missing, loose or cross-threaded.
Check for missing fuel filler cap or integrity of the cap. If OK, clear continuous memory DTCs and re-initiate EVAP Emission Running Loss Monitor Drive Cycle.
Stuck open evap purge valve , maybe. Take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop an have the evap system smoke tested .

P1151 - Lack of HO2S-21 Switch, Sensor Indicates Lean A HEGO sensor indicating lean at the end of a test is trying to correct for an over-rich condition. The test fails when fuel control system no longer detects switching for a calibrated amount of time. See Possible Causes for DTC P1130

Remove and inspect the spark plugs for heavy deposits or glazed-looking interior insulators. Make sure the plugs are the proper type for this engine. Heavy carbon build-up in the cylinder heads will cause pinging. If the ignition system is too advanced, it will also cause problems. Try a different brand of fuel. High engine temperatures can do the same (caused by poor cooling system or lean fuel/air mixture). If the check engine light is on, take the car to Autozone or a similar business that offers a free scan of the computer. This may provide additional clues. Hope some of this helps!

hi it means you have a lean fuel/air ratio on the cylinders on that side of your engine look for air leaks [hoses gaskets loose manifold bolts etc yates210456
