Sounds very much like like a water pump or pump belt problem. If there is no coolant circulating (indicated by the overheating), you will have none passing through the heater core of the car.

1997 DeVille: the car is overheating...

The most common overheating problem with the Northstar engine is a blocked purge line(small hose). The purge line is designed to purge air out of the cooling system.
There is a small diameter hose coming from near the top of the coolant tank (not the cap) ,this is the purge line.
With the engine idling, pull the purge line from the tank,if there is no coolant flow from this small hose,it is blocked and this will cause overheating.
If the hose is clear, check for blockage at the nipple on the tank.Or trace the hose back until you find the blockage.
The hose goes in to the engine to a crossover and comes out the other side close to the thermostat housing, the blockage may be there.

Overheating

Check the water pump belt and make sure it did not come off the water pump pulley. It is on the rear of the valve cover on the front of the vehicle. It is run by the cam shaft.Hope this helps.Good luck.

Why does my cadillac 1998 deville keep overheating?

Overheating can be numerous things: Fans not working, water pump, thermostat, overflow cap, and the list keeps going. When the engine is running and heats ups, feel the heat of the top hose, if the hose isn't hot, the thermostat is most likely stuck open and needs replaced. If it is hot we know you have circulation. The cap on the expansion tank may be defective, if it can't hold the pressure of the water, it will release at the overflow cap if the cap is bad. Also check the coolant level.

How often does a thermostat in radiator system need to be changed

if car has not had good coolant additive to protect the water system then thermostat will not last long, also if that is the case flush out with cleaner then replace thermostat, over heating can be caused by a number of other things like blocked rad head gasket leaking

It sounds like they didn't get the cooling system filled completely, there's an air bubble. I had a problem with a 2000 Oldsmobile overheating, it turned out to be the aftermarket thermostat. I bought a stat from GM the problem went away.

I have a 1991 deville, and it just started overheating about 1 month ago. I put anti freeze in it and when its driven alot or long miles, then it runs hot and the antifreeze is gone.

If the engine fan works and you get good heat from the heater then you could have a bad head gasket. First make sure you dont have a leak somewhere and the car is overheating from low coolant level.

1997 cadillic deville no fuel is getting into injection pump 50lbs pressure.SHNS

hi, the most common issue here will be a dirty or clogged fuel pump and filter as well. I recommend changing the filter and fuel pump. when replacing these vital devices, make sure the wires are connected tightly and the voltage level at the pump is sufficient.

Overheating,eveything looks ok.

I have a 97 Cadillac Deville with a northstar engine and have replaced it twice so far, so i answer this by experience...i've noticed to my two prior engines that went bad that the normal temp should NOT EXCEED 228 (normal), the red overheating light will come on at 250 and at 260 it will beep and tell you to stop engine - idle engine and will begin to smoke (overheat).

I hope this helps you and anyone else...by the way if your asking why did i replace my engine twice is simply because my cadillac is super clean inside and out, immaculate condition.
