There should be a decal somewhere in the engine compartment or on the underside of the hood showing the routing for the belt. Tension is kept on the belt by a pulley called a tensioner. You will have to get the belt routed and then position the tensioner (usually using a breaker bar) so the belt can slip on. Then release the tensioner.

I cannot reach pulley bolt on my 2002 saturn any suggestions on how to reach it to replace belt

You have to jack up the right side of the vehicle, remove the right tire and the wheel well covering in order to gain easier access to the right side of your engine compartment in order to change the serpentine belt. I have changed the serpentine belt on my 2002 SC-1 Saturn without doing this, but you have to be very patient because there is only about 2 inches of clearance to work. A long handled box wrench works for me on the tensioner bolt when removing the belt.

How to change serpentine belt

on the engine compartment area up front, in area of radiator should have a diagram explaining the procedure of replacing the serpentine belt, if not , then look for the belt tensioner, it should be on the passenger side in front of the engine, you will need a 13- 15" metric socket with a 3/8"rachet to release the tensioner , in order to get the belt off, "look at the belt , very closely before removing it, in order to make sure you get it back on right. start from the bottom, and work your way up, then , when you get to the tensioner, pull back on it and allow the belt to come in contact with the tensioner pulley, then while releasing the tensioner pulley against the belt, and then look at the whole belt to make sure it is on right , before you start the vehicle.

92 buick le saber---changing plug wires... rear cylinders are even, front are odd... from left (passenger side) to right(drv. side) what order is correct?? PLEASE help. am poor single father and...

If you stand at front of car with hood open, the left side of the engine (side with serpentine belt) is where the numbers start. Odd cylinder closest to serpentine belt is cylinder 1 and even cylinder closest to serpentine belt is cylinder 2. The cylinders are in numeric order, for example: the cylinder next to cylinder 1 is cylinder 3.

Change a serpentine belt on a 1996 chevy cavalier

Diagram should be under the hood
The auto tensioneris down low and dificult to get to.
If it has not been changed in a while you will need a long thin push stick and a serpentine tool.
Push on the belt hard at the auto adjuster and pop the belt off the smooth pully (located top).
hook up the serpentine belt tool and then mount the new belt

I changed my timing belt with only the bar not the pin and i belive that it is off tdc just on the last piston in the firing order. I replaced the tensioner when i did the belt the first time and am going...

the tensioner has about the same life as the serpentine belt,
Manufacturers recommend replacing it whenever you have the belt out, for wear, not because the removal causes any risks.
Yours wont have any wear on it and it should still be good for the service life of the serpentine belt
