There is a web site called www.bioscentral.com it show fault codes and what they mean. Fault codes never tell you exactly what is wrong with a vehicle, just the area to look in. i do believe that this is a hard drive error.

Fault code for 2001 ram 1500 code is P 1740

Where did you get code? whomever ran the diagnostics should have told.Anyone can a $19.00 scanner and it comes with a list of codes. Search online for code p1740 answer took less than 5 seconds. All North American vehicles use OBD 2 codes and the are available on line for free. If the person that runs diagnostics does not have a list of codes and know what the mean, I would not use them.

P1740 ford

Four digit codes are brand specific. The only info I have on 1740 for a Ford product involves the transmission but not a specific part.
Its possible the code was a fluke since it went off, but I would want someone to check it out just in case.

Check engine light came on getting code 1740 which i believe is the overdrive selenoid. where is it and about how much does it cost. how hard to replace it.

You have to have the vehicle properly diagnosed,
starting with any codes you have,to determine
what if anything gets replaced

Cost depends ,as you know, on parts ,labor & the merchant
you choose

Codes have nothing to do with replacing parts
or telling you what is wrong
