2002 BMW 530i blower motor not working, wondering if it is a fuse or the resistor. How best to check? Thanks

Replace fan speed switch

Before you replace the fan speed switch...make sure you check the fuse...then check the motor...and finally check the resistor assembly...the resistor assembly controls the different speeds of the fan motor by allowing the switch to put different resistors in and out of the circuit to reduce the fan speed...it is usually located on the heater housing near the fan motor..they are a common failure...the switches don't fail as often

Need to replace a front heat blower resistor on 2002 mdx, where is located???

moz-screenshot.pngHere's an excerpt from the 2002 Acura MDX 4WD 6cyl Repair guide for replacing what the reference manual calls the "control assembly" - its located under the console rear trim and may (or may not)
contain the blower resistor - my manual doesn't say - but this is the closest thing I could find for you. Every other blower resistor I've had to find was located close to the heater controls - and this
car seems to be no exception -- its heater controls are located in the console between the seats, rather than in the dash (as in Acura 2003-06 MDX models).

You may want to call your friendly Acura dealership ad speak to the parts department, to make sure where the blower resistor is located - or a visit to a dealership parts counter often (or
Advance Auto Parts is helpful too) ofen clarifies questions I have from Haynes manuals (the cheapest car repair guides).

All this assumes that you've correctly diagnosed your blower control problem -- as in "replace the blower resistor when the blower works only on the MAX/Highest setting."

Control Assembly Removal & Installation

2001-02 Models
  1. Remove the console rear trim. Refer to the accompanying illustration.

  2. Remove the self-tapping screws and the rear heater-A/C control unit (A) from the console rear trim (B).

To install:
  1. Install the control unit in the reverse order of removal. After installation, operate the control unit controls to see whether it works properly.
  2. Run the self-diagnosis function to confirm that there are no problems in the system.

A/c blower only works on the highest setting

There is a "blower motor resistor" that controls the lower speeds of the fan. Check with your local parts store, Auto Zone / Action Auto / Napa, and they will be able to direct you to the location of the resistor.
The resistors cost is between 10 and 20 dollars depending if you have auto a/c or manual.
Good luck.

If the blower is your problem, then it's probably the switch. If it was just working on high before, and now it's not at all, that's your first clue.

2002 Chevy Impala Blower resistor location

It is on the passenger side, you have to remove the black plastic kick plate, below the glove box, to expose it (held in place with 2 latches and 1 push pin). The resistor is in front of the blower motor ( sandwiched between the motor housing and the firewall) it is tricky to get to, i think when i changed mine i didnt replace all the screws as they were difficult to remove and even harder to replace. Good Luck, Mike

2002 dodge grand caravan heater blower only works on high spped

If you are looking for the fan blower resistor, it is located behind the glove box. No tools need to get to it and a nut driver to remove the 2 screws to replace it. A 20$ part.

Heater (and a/c) blower motor runs only at the two highest speeds

I had the same exact symptom (02 Prizm LSI)..Order yourself a Blower Motor Resistor (I clicked on it---scroll up on this same screen that you are reading--- AC Delco part, $25.79). When the part arrives, look at it, and then look behind and to the left of your glove box door, YOU WILL SEE IT RIGHT AWAY. 2 screws, takes about 10 minutes to change. Its been nice to get all 4 speeds back! Good luck.
