Question about 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

99 chevy cavalier misfires sporadically on the #2 cylinder. Under diagnostics the chevy garage stated that the catalyic converter was plugged. It was not the problem. New coil and a new plugs, new plug boot, new coil holder, what else can cause this problem on just the #2 cyclinder?

Thanks for any help. I have a 99 5.3L chevy that i am getting a p0302 misfire code on. I have switched the wire, plug and coil with no change still misfire on #2. When i pull the plug it smells like gas...

Here is what I would recommend when trying to isoltate this condition. I understand that you already switched some stuff out and the misfire code is still present. I recommend pulling the plug and while leaving it connected to the wire and coil , place the electrode on the cylinder head or good ground source and have somebody turn the engine over while you visually verify that the plug is in fact creating a nice blue spark. The plug could be fuel fouled so have a new plug ready to try as well to make sure you are not mislead. If you have a good spark then I would start suspecting a leaking or possibly even stuck fuel injector for cylinder #2. Creating an overly ricj condition in that cylinder and causing a misfire. Diagnostically speaking you have taken the correct path so I think you got a good beat on it. Hope this was helpful.

Just got 2002 chevy cavalier ls check engine light on code is p300 multiple cylinders misfire, changed plugs and wires now says cylinder 2 misfire what do i do

RECHECK#2 SPARKPLUG, PULL IT OUT AND INSPECT THE GAP TO MAKE SURE IT'S NOT BENT SHUT, IF PLUG IS OK MAKE SURE WIRE BOOT IS ON SECURELY, IF THATS OK THEN SUSPECT A FAULT COIL.
