2001 bravada service awd light comes on and off. It is off more often than not. All seems to be okay with car. Could this be a sensor issue?

The switch itself is often the problem. It has three resistors in it, and as they get older their resistance changes a bit, confusing the electronic control module that controls the 4WD unit. Once it gets a confusing signal, it stays confused until you turn the car off an back on.
Sometimes turning the car off, moving the switch one position over and then back, and restarting the car will reset it, other times not.
Replacing the switch is usually the answer. The part is about $20, but it takes a shop about an hour to pull the dash apart to get at it, so you're usually looking at about $150 to have it replaced (assuming that is what is really wrong).
Note - if you have an AWD setting for your truck, and it seems to get stuck there, you really should get this fixed. RUnning in AWD setting all the time puts extra wear on the transfer case and to a certain extent the front hubs. The Trailblazer and Bravada should really only be in AWD setting when the roads are slightly slippery.

2000 Oldsmobile Bravada AC backfeeding to mess up the AWD upon next start up.

Go to and register your car for free wiring diagrams and fusebox layouts. Another site is for the same things.

Look at the wiring and fusebox layouts and see if there is any common connection between the A/C wiring and the AWD light.

I can tell you when it comes to shifting from normal to all wheel drive in Ford systems, they use a single wire that carries different voltages. The difference is so slight, that having a burned out dash light can change the transfer case from 2 wheel to 4 wheel drive, just because the voltage is bypassing a burned out bulb. Should your A/C and AWD work in a similar method it would explain what is happening to you.

The extra unused power increases the power available and alters the functions of the controls. Something different happens at each posiition
so low becomes medium and medium becomes high for example.

Now you may want to start by replacing Relays. Because someone was right when this was mentioned. Most people do not know that there are more than 1 set of contacts inside of a relay. Many times half of the Relay may be stuck on, and not release when the control is shut off. This allows for some weird power connections.

The Web sites I mentioned can show fuse Relay positions. See what may be common to the A/C and AWD.

Low power and missfire, have replaced bad distributor and rotor. 2000 Oldsmobile Bravada AWD. Where are the fuel pump and filter located?

I have replaced Distributor cap, rotor, wires, and spark plugs in my 2000 Oldsmobile Bravada AWD smart track. To replace one spark plug I had to collapse the steering column, but everything went O.K. Did you marked the wires?. Did you reconnect them in the firing order?
The fuel pump is located In the fuel tank. Remove the fuel tank and take the fuel pump out from the top. This is part cost $300 and need some skills to be replaced.
The fuel filter it is directly in front of the fuel tank. Another one is incorporated with the fuel pump.

My AWD doesn't work. I have a broken wire on my

definately repair that wire. now keep in mind that that particular wire is called a shielded wire and you need to be clean and careful when you repair it. make sure it is water tight and protected. this wire is for the abs wheel speed sensor and with no reading, the abs is inoperable which will affect the awd. the abs and smart trac work in conjuction with each other to help you remain stable. cheers.

I have a 2000 bravada and the awd doesn't isn't working. I took to the shop I usually get work done at and they said it was working fine. I am no mechanic but when the front tires aren't moving and you are...

I'm pretty sure the computer controlled NP-136 transfer case (which uses two speed sensors to sense the difference in speed between the front output shaft and the rear output shaft, and engages the front axle accordingly) was installed in 1998 and later models.

These trucks (mine included) use an "Active On Demand" transfer case. Basically its a normal 4x4 transfer case with a big electrically actuated (by way of a motor) clutch that connects the front prop-shaft (which is being spun by the wheels full time) to the transfer case front output. Its all in the transfer case.

Good luck and hope this help, check all the fuses and the wire harness to the encoder motor and replace the encoder motor if it has gone bad. Try bring it to a transmission shop that is familiar with the AWD system on your Bravada. The earlier years were a different system, 1998 was when the change was made. 1997 and earlier use the Borg-Warner 4472, which is always engaged with the use of the viscous coupling. Both were marketed as "SmartTrak" though.

Sounds to me like the transfer case actuator motor is either faulty or it is being told to be on all the time (which it shouldn't be).
