Check for a fuel relay under the hood or you got a bad fuel pump from the store. another problem is the ground.

Did you check the fuel pump relay and made sure all of the wires on top of the tank is good and plug in if all fails stop by your local library and get your hands on a Haynes auto repair manual for your SUV i also like to give you this information they sells only GM-parts its Schram auto & truck parts 1-800-292-1032 and they website is www.schramauto.com wish you the best of luck Michigan Man.

My suburban has to be primed to start

There is a separate circuit and relay that primes the fuel system when you start the vehicle. If you sit in a silent location and turn the key to the ON position (without cranking), you should hear the fuel pump run for about 5-6 seconds. This is to bring the fuel pressure up in order to let the vehicle start. Then the normal pump circuit takes over. Sounds like your priming circuit is not working. I would try the relay first.

Will not start I don,t hear fuel pump run

when you turn key to on position, not start position, you say you cannot hear pump hum for a few seconds, correct ? first check fuses, then find fuel pump relay, it may have a fuse in it also. I would replace relay first. after the fuses of course. if you still don't hear pump run, then your pump is most likely the problem. its in your tank. one more thing, make sure all grounds are good in this circuit. it could be that simple. good luck

1998 GMC Suburban. Did an oil change about a month ago and then changed the spark plugs, but now the car won't even start??? I have no clue now.

When you initially turn on the ignition switch,(before engaging the starter) do you hear a humming sound from the rear of the vehicle for about 3sec's? (sort of like a motor running) If not, you have a bad fuel pump. (The fuel pump is located inside of the fuel tank)

1998 ford explorer sport,V6 SOHC cranks but no start.. Took vehicle to get Emissions Tested (Illinois), turned off vehicle, they hooked up there diagnostics, went to start, no start, pushed me outside to...

It sounds like your fuel pump or pump relay died. Have a listen below the driver side passenger door in front of the rear wheel while someone turns the key to the "ON" position. You should hear a muffled whirring noise. If not, then the relay or pump has died.

The relay is located in the engine compartment in a black box in front of the power brake booster. The exact location is posted in your owners manual. Autozone or checker sells them for about $7, That should be your first step before dropping $150 on a pump that you might not need. Besides, replacing the pump requires removing the fuel tank to access the pump , and if the shop says the pump is not getting power, then most likely, it is the relay OR the mini fuse for the relay (Not the fuse on the dash panel)

LOCATION OF RELAY AND MINI FUSE

Good luck.

Fuel pump

THE FIRST THING I WOULD DO IS REMOVE THE FUEL CAP PUT YOUR EAR TO THE FILL PORT AND HAVE SOME ONE PUT KEY INTO THE RUN POSTION IF YOU HEAR A WINNING SOUND THEN THE PUMP IS TURNING ON.IF THE PUMP IS TURNING ON THEN I WOULD CHECK THE FUEL PRESSURE AT THE THRODLE BODY. IF THE PUMP DOESN'T WINE THEN I WOULD CHECK ALL OF YOUR FUSES, IF THE FUSES ARE GOOD YOU MIGHT BE LOOKING AT REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP, WHICH IS COMMON FOR GM. IF ALL IS GOOD WITH FUEL THAN I WOULD LOOK AT A NO SPARK ISSUE. BUT CHANCES ARE IT WILL BE A FUEL ISSUE. GOOD LUCK HOPE THIS HELPS

1996 Suburban, after changing the Fule Pump Module with another module, I turn the key over and hear a whirr from the tank but the vehicle will not start. i think the Fuel Pump Module must be bad, but do...

The fuel pump module may not be bad. If you hear whirr that is good. Did you change both of the filters, the one on the fuel pump and the external filter (the one along the frame of the trunk). Also did you clean out the tank? If you did all that the next step would most likly point to fuel injectors.
