Question about 1998 Chrysler Sebring

3 Answers

I have a 1998 Sebring. It is so loud. It sounds like there is no muffler. I took it to the mechanic who said it woulld cost 900 dollars. He said a piece that connects to the catalytic converter is rusted. Do I have any other options? Does that sound like a fair estimate?

Oh sorry. I really no nothing about cars. It's near the front of the car and it's a piece that connects to the catalytic converter. He said it is rusted. No, it isn't a muffler place. It's just a guy we usually take our cars to.

Go to a shop that does exhaust work, it will be much cheaper as they can fabricate the part from scratch, $900 is absolutely ridiculous.

Yes Of course you do, You can go to eBay and ourchase a magniflo converter for less than 150.00 and have some regular mechanic install it. It just bolts in. There is a flexible part that bolts up that rusts out quickly. DON't let these CROOKS take your money.

2005 Cadillac CTS is making loud noise, sounds like it's coming from underneath the car.

-Muffler pipe connector could be loose.
-Could be a "hole"
And depend on how many part need to replace or just tight down.
-It could run from 150-400 (If replace the whole muffler line, it'll
go up to 800)

How to find out if loud knocking is piston or thrown rod, plus battery will not stay charged. This all happened after backfire and blown muffler

The only way to determine what it is would be to remove the sump from the motor, Either way you need another motor as the cost to repair will be greater than the cost to replace.

My 1999 Kia Sephia is really loud. It sounds like it needs a new muffler or something to do with the exhaust system. How much on average does this problem cost to fix in a shop?

Probably around 50-200 dollars depending on what you need. If worst comes to worst it could be up too even 400 dollars. Hope this helps, James Booth

Look at spending around 200-400 dollars to replace all the lines, and possibly calipers or wheel cylinders if the bleeder screws are rusted out also.

How does it "sound like it's going bad"? It's aftermarket, and it isn't the same as OEM. It won't sound the same either. That doesn't mean it's bad. They might have left a gasket loose, making an unusual and loud sound.

Careful. this sounds very high and there are generic cats that any competent (and HONEST) muffler shop can install with a Mazda or generic muffler.
Don't know how labor is in your area but the cat and an adequate muffler together shouldn't cost over ~$200 US. Check with a 'parts' store that doesn't do installation to see what the individual pieces cost 'over the counter.' If you are in the US, check with your local Better Business Bureau website to find an honest shop.
