Question about 2002 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

1 Answer

My car will not start when the temperature drops bellow zero. It takes about 10 minutes and 20 turns of the key to finally get it going. I have had it into the dealership numerous times. The battery and spark plugs have been replaced. They can't seem to figure it out. Please help!

Your fuel system could be freezing.
You need to put about 2-bottles of "HEET" or any other similar brand of fuel system dryer into your gas tank.
Also you should try some high-grade spark-plugs that could improve engine starting.

1998 s-10 security light

If the security light is hot or flashing when the key is in the on position, most likely the ignition key tumbler housing has failed.

You can try resetting the pass code by turning the ignition switch to the on position (do not crank or start the engine). Leave the key in the on position for 10 minutes. Turn the key to the off position, wait 5 seconds and turn the key to the on position again and leave it on for 10 more minutes. Cycle the key to the off position again for 5 seconds the back on for a final 10 minutes. Once the final 10 minutes is complete, turn to the off position again, wait 5 seconds and now turn the ignition on and to the start position. The pass code has now been reset and it should start. If the reset does not work you will have to change the ignition key tumbler housing that contains the key code resistor.
Good luck

P1687 code

Code 1684 is not on the list for Chrysler cars, code 1687 is for the battery voltage dropping below 10 volts. This can occur if the voltage actually does drop below 10 or if the battery is disconnected from the computer.
It could be a wiring problem between the key switch and the main fuse box.

Outside temperature is 43. Car takes a long time to warm up and at least 25 to 30 minutes to get heater to blow out heat. Once it does there is good heat but it takes a long time. I also notice when...

the first step is to verify coolant level, if its ok, then replace the thermostat. while you are there, you may flush the heater core, make sure water flows easily in both directions.

94 cadillac deville...car will not start or turn over because the security light blinks on and off. had a new key made at the dealer and performed the relearn procedure..I put the key in the RUN position...

As the prescribed method isn't working it would seem likely the antitheft system is broken and should be checked by a professional.

Electronics aren't bulletproof and at over 20 years old the ones fitted to your car are 20 years less robust and 20 years less sophisticated and easily damaged by such things as welding, battery charging, jump starting or even nearby lightning strikes. Such instances often do not cause obvious damage immediately but rather have a weakening effect so the final breakdown happens later, maybe years later.

MIGHT HAVE TO DO THE RELEARN PROCEDURE LIKE THE DEALERS DO.....PUT KEY IN IGNITION AND TURN TO RUN POSITION,,, DO NOT CRANK,,,, LET STAND FOR 10 MINUTES.... THEN TURN OFF KEY AND THEN BACK ON FOR ANOTHER 10 MINUTES. THE FOR THE LAST TURN OFF THEN BACK ON FOR LAST TEM MINUTES..... FINALLY TUR KEY ALL THE WAY OFF,,, TAKE OUT KEY.,,,, PUT KEY BACK IN AND TRY TO START... IF NO START THEM REPLACE KEY ONLY FROM DEALLR

Alero will crank awhile before it finally starts w/ more details

May have small fuel leak or fuel pump sending unit leak down. Or fuel pump psi low.

After 30 minutes try this turn key on. do not try to start wait 10 seconds turn key off then on again 10 seconds then try & start if it starts right away fuel system is losing PSI either back through the fuel pump or a leak in line. If you can find no leaks would suggest replace fuel pump & assembly.
Another possible but rare fuel injectors may be leaking fuel over time & dropping PSI needed for start up.

Oil Pressure Drops While Driving

your oil pump is either weak or there is sludge i9n the oil pan. my adives is to have the oil pan dropped . chances are sludge is the culprit. as the oil get's warm the pressure should only drop slightly but pressure is generally dictated by engine rpm. pumps are gear driven so if it was a bad pump your oil pressure would start out very low at start up.
