Even from the factory, most cars can have tires of various sizes. What's important is that the tire is the same size as the other one on the same axle, and ideally all tires are the same size on an awd vehicle. Look at your other tires and see what size they are -- they will say something like 225/60R15 (example).

Inside your drivers door when you open the door there is a tag for your tire sizes. You can look at the other tires and get the size that already on the vehicle...235\70\R20. example.. Look for numbers like these

Can I use a 265/65R tire on my Mercury Mountaineer 2004?

The only time you can use a tire other than what came from the factory
is if you change wheel diameters
Then the tire size has to have to same circumference

Remember everything is computer controlled.

If you found tires you like and not in your size, you
can not use them

Can we use snow tires on it and if so what kind and size. for a 2007 mercury mountineer

Hello. Yes, snow tires will give you the best possible traction in winter driving conditions, better that all season. The size tire depends upon the size of your rim so go to a tire store and shop around. They will tell you what size your vehicle requires. As far as kind goes, I prefer Michelin but any brand name snow tire will work fine.

Tires

You didn't mention what type of wear you have and there are many things that could contribute to wear like air pressures, shocks, driving style, etc.
However it could also be an alignment issue on this vehicle too. The rear camber and toe is adjustable on this vehicle.
