Question about 2001 Subaru Impreza

1 Answer

The fuel filter neck on my 2001 Subaru Impreza has rusted through. When I put half a tank of gas in, even when only lightly squeezing the gas handle by hand, gas drips onto the ground from the bottom. Thank you. Barbara

You can order the new filler neck at the dealer and can be replaced easily or have them install it for you. Good luck and be safe. Think this is a dealer only part.

hi it can really only be two things, first is the fuel sender on the pump inside the tank it could be stuffed or sticking causing a false reading, second it can also be a faulty fuel gauge on the dash.

probably the rust from the filler neck got in tank and it may be clogging up the fuel filter. or maybe even the injectors. check fuel filter, replace plugs, then put some good fuel injector cleaner in it. this may help alot!! did you say you are having battery problems!! if the alternator is charging, you should have at least 14.2 volts at battery with car running. with it off. there should be at least 13 volts at battery. if alternator is less then above, replace it. unless you have a loose belt on alternator!! have a good day !!

2001 Durango acts like the gas tank is full during filling cutting off the pump. The only way to fill tank is to pump gas really slow

Chrysler and Dodge have a fuel vapor filter that allows air out of the gas tank but filters the harmful fumes. Usually the problem happens from topping off your gas after the gas pump stops due to the automatic shut off and then putting more gas in the tank (to make the bill an even $50. or to the next $5 increment, or pumping more in just because it fits). Anyway the filter gets saturated with gas, is not able to breath, and causes a vacuum in the tank. Because of this, the anti-siphon ball is not able to float around and sits at the opening of the fuel fill tube and won't allow any more gas to be put in (acts like the car is full). If you pump super duper slow like put a nickel to hold the gas pump handle, it will trickle in without a problem, but it takes forever! Solution, get the filter replaced and don't over fill the tank.

upon filling the tank, push the nozzle in fully were the nozzles seal meets the filler neck rim. Then pull the nozzle out about one or two inches and try that. It seems to work on cars that have a very thin walled gas neck to the tank

I have problems putting gas in my car. the pump shuts off liek its full even tho its nowhere close to being full

Your tanks has a built in wire filter just below the neck. This has two functions 1) it removes any dirt in the fuel 2) it stops anyone from putting a hose into your tank to syphon fuel out. When you fill the tank pull the nozzle out partially (not fully out of the tank neck) but enough to let the fast delivery go through the wire filter gauze.
Hope this helps.

Not getting gas to engine, car will not run

If you don't hear a buzzing sound coming from the gas tank when you turn on the ignition, the pump is shot even tho there is voltage going to it.
