Hi:
Your oil pump is mounted under your oil pan, and the oil pick up tube is attached to it.

How to change a fuel pump on a 2006 gmc sierra pickup

Discharge fuel pressure by removing the fuel pump fuse and starting engine until it dies. Drop fuel tank low enough to disconnect fuel and vapor lines. Lower the fuel tank all the way and remove locking ring from fuel pump module. Lift out the module and replace with new. Reverse to re-install. This is NOT a diy job.

Cant find location of oil pump

You need to remove the oil pan to get to the oil pump. You will not find it externally on the engine. If you already have the pan out, follow the oil pickup and it will lead you righ to the pump.

Gas gauge reads empty and low fuel with 10 to 20 gallons of fuel inside the fuel tank of my 2006 gmc 1500 pickup.

Other than replacing the sensor which is part of the fuel pump assembly inside the tank, you may have loose or corroded connections in the wiring just outside of the fuel pump/sensor position on the tank. These connections are exposed to water/salt conditions from road spray. May the force be with you!
