Is it the result of a broken belt, or has the pump ceased up? If its a belt, It'll need to be replaced. If its the pump, then you will need to replace the pump. Not very difficult, I can talk you thru it. Good Luck! I hope this is very helpful to you!

Absolutely! So you are saying you need to replace the pump..right?

Your job is not difficult, although accessability may be an annoyance. You must first remove the belts..all of them. Then you will locate the bolts in the water pump and remove them. You can then take the pump off. After you take off the pump, remove all remaining gasket material from the machined surface on the engine. It is very important that this surface is clean and dry so that when you get back up and running there are no leaks. I recommend the use of a gasket sealer on the machined motor surface as well as the water pump machined surface. Put the new gasket on the motor surface and make sure it is in place, flat and no wrinkles. Put the new pump on and re-install the bolts that hold it. Prior to putting it on, you may have to remove the bell that the belt runs on from the old pump and put it on the new one. Once you have the pump bolted up you can re-install and tighten the belts. You are ready now to start the car and add coolant as necessary. Good Luck!

Rodeo waterpump blew now wont start

Hi, The first thing I would check is the BATTERY. Check the connections and wire conditions. The waterpump has no connection to the battery. The motor drives the pump. Hope that helps.

Hello: The waterpump is on the passenger side of engine. Either the heater hoses are leaking or the waterpmp shaft seals or the radiator hose that attaches to the waterpump. The waterpump is located about in the center, its pulley does not have groves and the pulley is held on the waterpump with 4 10mm bolts.

Procedure on changing waterpump

  1. first drain the cooling system.
  2. loosen bolts on the waterpump pulley and remove the inner fender cover on the pass/side.
  3. remove the surpentine fan belt, note; make a diagram of the belt routing so belt will go back on the right way.
  4. remove the bolts you loosened on the pump pulley, use a pry bar to pry engine back to have enough room to remove the waterpump pulley.
  5. remove the bolts holding waterpump, you will want a pan under the van to catch coolant when waterpump is removed,
  6. remove the pump and clean old gasket off the block and install new pump,
  7. reverse to install new pump and fill system with coolant allow engine to run until thremostat opens, hope this is helpful. heres a few diagrams of the waterpump and the cover and the belt routing, good luck and hope this is helpful.

Waterpump removing fan

Well, if it's a 5.0L engine, remove the 4 bolts holding the fan to the pulley. If it's a 4.0L engine, you need to hold the waterpump pulley still and break the nut loose holding the fan clutch to the waterpump. If you don't have a wrench that big, try using a long chisel on the edge of the nut and hitting it very hard with a hammer to break it loose.
