Question about 1995 Chevrolet Camaro

1 Answer

Need to know how to replace my power steering pump.

For starters, i have a 95 LT1 z28, and im stuck on a power steering pump issue. When id start it up, the car makes a LOUDDDD squeal. If youd turn the wheel, it would get louder. This doesnt happen when im gassing it or if im moving past 10mph. But at first i thought it was the idler pulley, but now it seems like my power steering pump is in a never ending menstrual cycle! It leaks badd. SO what do yalll think could be the problem? and if it is the pump,( i already bought one from a parted out lt1 firebird) how would i go about taking the crappy one out and the new one in??
Thanks for reading!!

There's an O-ring on those oil lines, maybe you cut or lost one. They're available at your local parts store.I hope that's all it is,not your power steering pump or rack.

My 95 LT1 Z28 will start but only run feathering the gas also will not straight up throttle up. Opti spark dist?

Run the fault codes first. If that doesn't show anything unplug the MAF sensor and see if it runs better, you will get a Check engine light, if so then replace the MAF sensor. Also check the fuel pressure.

1994 camaro z28 electrical system dead

A couple of things can be the cause. You could have an issue with your battery connection, or your ignition switch is dead. Ignition switch issues tend to kill all the power to the car. They can go without warning. It's located on the driver's side on the steering column.

Hello kshane53
What you've described are the classic symptoms of a bad starter drive. The easy fix is a new starter. If I understand you're question correctly, the engine turns over a couple of times then kicks out and you hear the whining till you release the key. If thats the case a starter will cure it.
Also be sure to inspect the flywheel for any chipped teeth when you change the starter.
Hope this helps.

Hard start

Hi teabag,

I too, once owned a '95 z28, fun car to drive, anyway HO chevy small blocks w/EFI are notorious for being beasts on a cold start. Try this when you get ready to start the car turn the ignition on but don't start let it set there a few seconds you should hear the fuel pumping waking up. Now instead of holding the key and letting it crank and crank, just hit enough to let the engine fire. Not only will lengthen the life of your starter it will lengthen the life of the fuel pump.

I have seen on manyengines that using high performance plugs can cause problems like your's. If you used split-fire's or platinum 4 plugs change them back to OEM sytle plugs and your problem should be solved. If you used OEM plugs check that none are loose or cross threaded as this can cause a loss of compression.

Let me know what type of plugs you iinstalled and I can try to assit further.
