The fuel pressure regulator is not adjustable,


Focus on cold air intake or just clean the air filter.

Filter injector need lubrication to free up the deposit.

I recommend two tank full of Chevron and Lucus fuel injector cleaner.


Lucus will also remove carbon deposit on the cylinder head.

2003 Ford F150 4.2 Ltr code P0171 and P0174 come upon diagnostic. It says fuel trim system lean on bank 1 and 2 What do I need to fix this problem


code p 0171 refers to system too lean bank 1===causes ---intake /exhaust leak---AIR system----MAF/VAF sensor---fuel pressure/pump---injectors/s--- heated oxygen sensor (HO2S in the exhaust manifold before the cat converter)
for this code the most likely fault will be the HO2S unit as it reads the exhaust gas composition and reports to the ECM so that the air/fuel ratio can be corrected
code p 0174 refers to system too lean bank 2===causes -same as for p 0171
fuel trim is what the ECM does after it receives an constant flow of information from all of the sensors and it alters the air / fuel ratio for the new parameters
you will have noticed a change in engine performance and fuel economy when driving at a constant speed over a distance or conversely a loss of economy when reverting to city driving
It also explains the advertised fuel economy figures --one for city driving and a better figure for highway driving

I have a 2003 Kia Sorrento and I just replaced my water pump and now as long as its cold it will run fine but once it warms up it back fires and wants to die. What could be causing this.


I would check the coolant temperature sensor. This tells the ECM what the coolant temp is. The ECM uses this to adjust the fuel rate and engine timing when the engine is cold. If the sensor isn't letting the engine know that the engine is warming up properly, then the engine will continue to get too much fuel and the timing will not be optimal. This can cause poor fuel economy, engine flooding issues, and possibly backfiring.

Next talk to a diesel pump repair specialist as you may have to re-tip the injectors and re-calibrate the pump for the extra air that the turbo produces. My car won't stay running when cold.I replaced the idle air control valve,and it didn't fix the problem.


The idle air control valve is designed to adjust for the load on the engine to maintain the idle quality. When it's cold out, it's more important that the engine temperature sensor is working correctly so that it can trim the fuel richer to compensate for the cold running conditions. Also, a dirty Mass Air Flow sensor could give you problems with your idle. A shop could easily diagnose the poor idle quality for a reasonable fee if you don't feel like throwing parts at it again. Have you experienced unusually poor fuel economy or better than normal fuel economy this winter?
